Advice wanted about the LSD/Seat package

I know everyone will tell me its worth it to invest in the performance package but can some people with experience either way give me a pro/con breakdown of having the LSD. The car I am looking into buying does not come with the performance package. What am I losing in this case?

TIA

#1 I love the recaros compared to the stock seats, much more supportive...
#2 the lsd has helped me pull on people in dig races, even while spinning the tires..
so its up to you haow your gonna drive the car and such... I drive mine hard and a friend of mine had his non lsd dif blow up at like 3000 miles at a cost of 6000 to replace trans... so you can use that towards your decision

This is coming from a female: the recaro seats have a type of net on them & my legs do not stick to the hot seats. The 1st Cobalt I test drove did not have the recaro seats, they were hot & my thighs stuck to them.

Was he beating the hell out of it, or did this just happen during normal driving? The seats don't matter much to me (i've been driving a 96 civic so i know the meaning of uncomfortable) and i'm sure anything will be an improvement.

I'm not planning on racing it. Maybe a peel out here or there if I put the engine torque stiffener thing on, but nothing too nuts. Something to note, I have driven a stick before, but i cannot call myself a "pro". I've driven my friends old 1990's celica and an even older chevy s-10 with no 2nd gear w/o problems. Do you think my novice skills with a stick will be a factor in an early differential death?

DIF NO.... CLUTCH YES... I've been driving stick for 10 yrs now and this is by far the strangest and most finicky clutch I've ever driven... I had an act 6 puck (stg4) in my rx-7 and it drive easier and more consistantly than this car. and yes he beat on it

The seats are amazing and the lsd helps through high speed twisties and hard launches. I would not have bought the car with out it but you have to decide if YOU want it or not

just remember its 1500 just for the dif to buy seperately and new the seats are like 1600, so just make sure thats what you want, see if a buddy got a G85 equipped one and test it first...

You should actually go to Quaife's web site and read of the benifits of LSD at the track.

Troof, this car definitely has a weird clutch, if you have the basic skills of driving manual you'll get used to it easily. When pressing on the clutch on my test drive is seemed like one half is stiff and the other soft and it catches riiiight in the middle.

Your full of **** man. A LSD is like a locker diff. If you don't have a differential when you do stomp on it only one tire will spin, much more easily than two. The LSD is a very worthwile option even if you aren't gonna race. Go out in the rain and just roll into it with any car. If you gotta pegleg you'll spin one tires ass off. But wiht a LSD or locker you won't it'll maybe spin a little, and then grab and off you go. Why this is optional on the Cob SS is beyond me. It's a saftey and durability feature. Becides if you gonna peel you best do it with at least two wheels or your gonna get laughed at for months to come.

Heres a link:

http://www.quaife.co.uk/catalogue/page7.htm

If that doesnt convince you to tag the extra $1500 on then I guess its really not for you.

Thanks for posting that. The article doesn't leave any room for arguing against LSD does it?

In my opinion, the g85 is a great thing to have. Mostly used if auto crossing (has a slight effect at the strip.) But if you dont think you will need the lsd then dont get it (I didn't, For the price of not getting it I have an exhaust and stage 2 plus some cash). The seats are nice but leather is a nice touch too.

And to the doubters, I can light up both wheels regardless without the lsd (Equal length half shafts and what not help this). Its mostly for autocrossing.
