Unhappy Blew the automatic transmission today :(

Was driving along fine for about 5 minutes when after I stopped at a light, it turned green and all my gas pedal did was make the engine rev up but car wouldnt move. Revved it up a few more times and got it to go about 5 mph so I could get off the road. After that movement it wouldnt go at all anymore. Got a tow truck that barely could tow my car cuz it was too low he said, I told him I have stock suspension and bigger than stock tires so I thought that was weird. If I would have installed a sportline kit the truck wouldnt have been able to tow me. Anyway, it's at the tranny shop now over the weekend and I'm supposed to hear something on monday as to what is the exact problem and how much it's gonna be. If the whole thing needs rebuilt then I may have to get rid of the car cuz I don't have $3grand laying around. I guess thats all for now until I hear from the shop.

depends on what broke. ive seen broken accumulator pistons cause issues like this, could be the teeth on the clutches sheered off, the filter could be plugged up with clutch material (in which case the clutches are very burnt), torque converter may have come apart. its all speculation till its on the bench and opened up.

Not so much the tune as the 400+ ft lb of torque the engine was sending through it, I bet.

Good luck~

if you need a new tranny...might as well buy a 4t65 instead of a 4t45

i dont think the hd is electronically controlled...so it would involve some extra work/parts to make work. I believe the 4t65e would be a direct swap.

the 4t65e hd is just a beefed up version of the 4t65e. they are both fully electronic controlled. however i dont believe you can run a 4t65e off a 4t45e pcm, at least not without major tuning and rewiring. fitting the tranny in the car is another huge issue.

the 4t45e can be built to take some serious power, but it does cost.

for the stock configuration. don't know any place that would put through a warranty claim when there is a turbo on the car that wasn't there stock... well, unless you're banging the service manager and mechanics. then, maybe you have a shot. if you're really good.

Try and just do a manual swap and pick a tranny up for 500 bucks off someone and have a shop do the install for another grand or so.

Yep, they got rebuild kits for around 500 for it. Of course that's not including the cost of rebuilding it.

that will be the cost of an overhaul kit with clutches and possibly steels. that wont include any pressure plates, accumulators, planets, ring gears, or any other hard parts that need to be replaced.

i have customers come into my shop all the time going "but i found this kit online called an overhaul kit that costs $200, how can you be charging me $3000 for an overhaul???" a lot more goes into building a transmission than a simple overhaul kit.

The tranny is definitaely gone, reverse is all that works. Filter was clogged with tons of material. Im gonna do a rebuild but it needs to be a bulletproof rebuild and not stock so this doesnt happen again. I have to get in touch with halfcent as I know his tranny is fully built and he will have some good info on this. im gonna keep the same tranny. Gonna throw an LSD in the mix as well but I need to find out what LSD will work with this tranny and what kind would be the best for a street car/ drag strip car. Anyone have input on this stuff?

It held up good for a long time. 400 bhp is about the limit on them I guess.

Good luck man.

Hey, I just got your PM.

Well, you had debris in the filter, so there is no question there.

My car has a problem that I haven't bothered to try and fix yet. It happens after it has been running for a while, so not a cold start problem. When I come to a stop, the longer I sit stopped and in gear, the more likely the problem is to occur. It will slip when trying to accelerate from the stop. I did a fluid and filter change and it was clean. My best guess (and it is just a guess) is that fluid is somehow pumping out of the torque converter when sitting still in gear. I've talked to 2 trans guys and they say the only way to know for sure is to take the thing apart. Since it's mostly a nuisance, I haven't done that yet.

I am curious to know what broke once they take it apart. I'm sure it's the first gear clutch pack based on the debris. Do a little more shopping though. 4 grand is more then I paid for mine built and installed. You could get a factory remanufacturer with a core exchange for less then a thousand. IPT charged me about $1500 for my build.

I just tried the Engineered Performance wed site and it's seems to working normally.

What build did you get? The site says $2,975. Then he said the torque converter would be extra 475. Then I still have to buy the LSD for about 640. Then all the shipping. I dont understand how you got all that for $1500?
