catastrophic failure: cv axles

so, as you can see I dropped my car ridiculously low. It's been 3 days with this chopped spring setup (don't hate). I was driving on the long island expressway and hit a bump while accelerating. boom...smoke, redline, jingling things on the highway.

I have come to the conclusion the suspension geometry is too extreme for these cv joints.
please, give me ideas. I am not compromising style for performance, call me crazy just don't call me a ricer. Stronger axles are my first mod, coilovers will be next. If anyone has encountered this please speak up.

is it your axles only? This has happened twice to me when accelerating and hitting a bump.. except i snapped the motor mount both times.. and when the motor dropped down, it caused the axles to go bye bye... im on H&Rs for the record

Axles in these cars don't like lowering of extreme amounts.

OTTP rotated mounts would probably help, they correct the geometry issues that happen from the factory, which only get worse when lowered. I'd ask them about it.

I really appreciate it guys thank you. I didn't get a chance to look over the car yet because it's dark. I am assuming 400hp axles will have stronger cv joints and will be able to take the drop since I'm at the most 260whp, am I wrong?

first thing I did I pulled codes, engine still purrs, got boost, no noise, no knock. cv boot must have melted and made smoke. I'm a little smarter than that but thanks anyway.

Id invest in some actual lowering springs and shocks before i worried about axles....

haha yeah I feel you, springs are not happening anymore. my cv joints completely broke off so I will definitely need axles. I will do coilovers as soon as possible.

Coilovers do not change geometry angles. Stronger axles will most likely not help any more then stock. Although the CV maybe built stronger, it most likely can not handle any more angle.

i think the rack spacer would help too.

chopped springs are garbage. you put a set of $700 axles on there and they will break the same as your $150 oem ones did.

buy replacement oem axles and then lowered springs. if you have 50k miles on there or more, you better replace the struts too because they're probably shot.

rotated mounts aren't going to do anything, you need a proper suspension. I'll put $100 on it that if depend on better mounts and axles, same thing will happen within a year.

I hear ya, I know there's going to be problems. I had some money saved for this kind of thing. ottp rotated mounts will actually reduce stress on the axles because it aligns the differential with the hubs much better thus giving less angle on the c-v joints. steering rack spacers are irrelevant, but I also ordered those to reduce bump steer. I also got stage 1 axles from ottp which are only like 250 bucks and I should also benefit from that. I don't have the money for coilovers yet and I am too stubborn to deal with that horrible wheel gap. It will come together over time. This is just the prequel to my project, which is getting this thing low as **** and having it daily drivable. call me crazy just don't call me a ricer.

was kinda thinking the same, for the price you paid for the parts you broke you could have just bought drop springs and had money for other things

how many times do I have to say this...I want the car SLAMMED not lowered. I am sitting on CUT progress sport springs with modified stock struts. the struts will not blow out because of how I modded them and it is only temporary. Yes, this is what happens when you cut your springs and I will not make the mistake again. The issue is resolved and it will be driving happily some time next week.

You will continue to blow out CV joints the lower and lower you go. Be ready for it. None of the joints are clarenced(sp?) for the extreme lowering.
