Question Cobalt Spec 3+ Clutch

I Installed My Spec 3+ Clutch Yesterday At The Dealership With My Tranny Tech. While I Was At Work. The Alum. Flywheel Was A Really Tight Fit Onto The Carnk, We Got It On And It Was Flush, I Still Think Its Strange That They Dont Recomend Replacing The Flywheel Bolts (Torq To Yeild?) Anyways It Drives Alright Kinda StiFF Pedal Feel But Its Starting To Go Away, The Real Problem Is, While Driving Home And All Last Night, I Noticed That The Tranny Is Making A Little Wind/Grind Noise Moistly Noticble When I Let Off Throttle In 4th Gear And I Was Wondering If Anyone Has Had The Same Prob?

The setup will be a pretty snug fit. Several people have had this installed in my car club. Perhaps your glazing the flywheel with that kind of noise. Shouldn't be making any kind of grinding noise.

New bolts don't really need to be installed but while you were up there you should have replaced the slave cylinder. Those tend to be a big piece of **** when using the stock clutch and will continue to give you problems until you replace it. That should be a recommened part to replace if you've been rolling with the stock clutch for quite sometime.

If it's not gone within 500 miles it's time to find out what went wrong.

I have a stage 2 spec with fidanza alum. flywheel. When I let off the gas, it makes a loud vibration noise. I narrowed it down to it being speed sensitive. From around 55-65 it will make noise when off the gas, not any other time, and makes it in any gear at that speed. I think my problem may be an alignment problem (weird yes, but I'm most certain it is) and I do have a bad alignment. Once I get it aligned, which is real soon, it should go away. If it doesn't, then I ponder as to what it could be

EDIT: And be easy on the clutch for at LEAST 500 miles. Try not to slip it that much or heat it up a lot, and try not to do aggressive driving/shifting. The flywheel definately makes a crazy improvement on this car, however, that may be the reason why you think that first gear slips a little. The lighter flywheel is going to make the car have less inertia from a stop. You're going to have to slip the clutch more then you would if you had the stock flywheel in the car in order to get it moving.

i dont have a stg 3 clutch but i did have that same weird noise when i let off the gas.. its kinda like a light grinding type noise.. it goes away when you step on the gas... it ended up being a bearing in the tranny and the dealer had to replace the tranny... sucks if thats what it is... but good luck on finding out what it was...

i have a spec stage 3 plus also....you need to replace the throw out barring...when my car is in nutural it makes a weird clunking noise but as soon as i push the clutch in it goes away. Also since i put in the 9lb flywheel in when im getting in it real hard the clutch gets real hard at the bottom...i think it maybe isnt getting enough fluid but i dont know yet....someone on here said something about a slave cylinder? Is there an upgraded one we can buy...any suggestons on what it may be....also i know its off the subject but anyone looking to buy a heat core exchanger cx racing has an awsome one for 176 shipped off of ebay...i put it on and what a hell of difference...gettin into the car racing alot my temp stays at like 178-185.......i just think its a good buy and im just spreading the word...anyone looking for a pic look up louisville area cobalt forum and scroll towards the last couple of pages and you can find a pic of it on my car...

I put a SPEC Stage 3+ clutch in mine. Immediately after this, my car too, makes a noise under deceleration that sounds like a vibrating bearing. It goes away once the engine is under 3000 RPM. The clutch install went smooth, so I don't know why this started happening. It sounds bad that the dealer had to replace the whole transmission instead of just replacing a bearing.

After break in, my clutch makes a little noise during engagement when its cold. Once warmed up, its fine.

Guess I've been told. I should have been as smart as you

When I needed a clutch, my two choices were SPEC and stock. Exedy and Clutchmasters were non-existent in Cobalt world. I don't even like SPEC clutches because I have had two of them in my Firebird and they were junk.

from what ive heard, the non + ones were crappy, but it's a big difference from like Spec Stage 3 to Stage 3+. All I know is that my Spec Stage 2+ is great, specially compared to the crappy stock clutch.

No doubt, the SPEC clutch is better than my stock one that blew all the lining off the disk after 6,000 miles of use.

Ok...you have to remember. These are performance clutches. I have the Spec stage 3/flywheel combo recommended by spec and the Mustang shop here. The diference petween the Spec 3+ and Spec 3 clutches is that with the 3+ setup you get a stage 4 pressure plate and full disk. With the Spec 3 you get a 6 puck disk and stage 3 pressure plate.

I have been running this clutch for over 10 months and here is what I noticed:

On cold days I highly recommend letting this clutch warm up for 5-10 min before you take off. Why you ask? Well you have to remember it is a semi metalic/carbon disk. In cold start-up temps this disk is rock hard and likes to chatter. Once you warm it up it will hold like no other.

On decel you will get what seems to be squeeling but in fact is just chatter.

I like this clutch and see nothing wrong with it. I would also bet that Exedies does the same on decel.

Sounsd like an improper installation if you ask me.

The vibration niose is extremely loud in my car but it really doesn't bother me. Again, I thought it was rpm related, but it's speed related for me. Decelerating from 65-55 it makes a loud vibration noise. When I put my hand on my shifter as well while it's making the noise, the shifter tends to jerk a tad/smidge/little bit every now and then. Not a lot so that you can see it with your eyes, but just neough to feel it if you're holding the shifter.

Oh and I also didn't replace the throw out bearing. I do get chatter from not having a new one but only when I press the clutch in all the way, so I now drive without putting the clutch to the floor

Because both your cars have such low mileage, you should try to get the dealer to fix your clutches:
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/drivetrain-79/%2A%2A%2Aclutch-repaired-under-warranty%2A%2A%2A-107017/

Total Cost: $00.00
