Flywheel Bolts

I see many mentions that the flywheel bolts to the crank are torque to yield but is there an actual source for this information?

The bolts are grade 10.9. I ran some calculations and determined the torque spec of 53 N-m is well under the torque needed to yield the bolt (84 N-m).

Just want to clarify since these bolts are $10 a pop at my dealer.

That doesn't answer my question and is a moot point. Those $40 bolts will turn into $80 bolts when they cross the border.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's due to the heads on them. A standard bolt has a lot of strength in the head. The flywheel bolts we use have such a thin head on them that I'm guessing your taking a chance on snapping them off. They aren't like a rod bolt that's torqued to a stretch length. Heads are super thin due to clearance.

$80 to ensure the $400+ clutch and flywheel doesn't get screwed up.

I think 63Nova has the reasoning

Run the arp flywheel bolts and never waste $ on OE again. Less than 40$ for the set IIRC
