frustrating!
I have an 07 Cobalt ss/sc I purchased at the begining of March. The car is completely stock with a little over 2k miles on it. When I purchased the car it had 13 miles on the clock, I babied it up to 1100 miles. I accelerated fast from a busy intersection and shifted into 2nd @ 6k RPM, the clutch slipped really bad all the way up to redline. I did not think anything of it and continued to drive the car home. The following day I decided to try it again to see if it would slip. I accelerated fast from a stop and shifted into 2nd @ 6k RPM, it slipped all the way up to redline (again). I took the car back to the dearlership, they told me it was driver error and there was no problem with the clutch itself. There was nothing else they could do at that point but tell me "don't drive the car at high RPM's" or change the clutch. Every car I've had was a stick, never owned an automatic! Is this a common thing for the Cobalt ss/sc? Is there a fix, besides changing the clutch? Any advice or opinions will be gladly appreciated.
I did not expect the clutch on this car to slip as early as it did. You would figure after so many complaints GM would step up to the plate and resolve this issue by installing a better clutch right from the start. I am very disappointed with my purchase, I expected better from this car. Thanks for the replies....
I seem to remember mine always slipping a bit...then it just completly went out a few weeks ago. 6600 miles. I had a defective pressure plate, found that out after i took everything appart. If I were you I would find a better dealer because the stock clutch is a decent one yet alot of dealers don't back it up... my new dealer looked at mine and warrantied it along with a new throwout bearing, mount that broke, and missing bellhousing bolt
so good luck. Oh and btw during "normal" driving try shifting around or above 3000 rpms....this has helped some people.

I recieved a follow up call yesterday from one of the service managers at the Chevy Dealership. He asked if the issue with my car was resolved and if I was satisfied. I told him the issue and what was going on, he agreed with me and said it doesn't sound normal for the clutch to slip at 1100 miles. He said to bring the car back, I told him I did not want to bring the car back and have to deal with the same service guys, waste my time and have nothing accomplished. He said he will call me back today to setup an appointment to take a look at my car. I am going to give them another chance to fix this issue, If nothing is resolved by the end of this week I am going to call GM customer relations and see if they can help me out. We'll see how things work out....
I just got off the phone with another chevy service advicer from a different chevy lot. He said the clutch issue will be covered under warranty, it shouldn't be slipping at 1100 miles, it's too soon. He set me up with an appointment for tomorrow at 8am. We'll see what happens...
I took my car in for service today to check the clutch issue. The service advicer said there is a leak with one of the seals wich is dripping oil onto the clutch causing it to slip. They are going to fix the leak and replace the clutch and possibly the flywheel if it's warped. I would suggest to have your car checked if your clutch is slipping. It's sounds like a common thing for the Cobalt SS/SC.
something even more frustrating..... just got the clutch in and everything back together after like a month, go to blead the thing and it freakin leaks.... pouring out the trany... it's gotta be the throwout/slave clyn so everything has to come back appart.... might just sell it and get a bike.
what do you shift at normal driving? i've got just over 10000 miles and mine still grabs like its new
also, if you talk to the advisor again find out what seal is leaking. frankly, i think hes full of ****

the only seal that could leak and drip on the clutch would be the little rubber nipple under the bleeder valve...and it would still have to drip into the bellhousing. or the line to the throwout/slave could be also.
I didn't bother to question the service advicer about the leak after he agreed to replace the clutch, didn't want to change his mind. The clutch has been replaced, it grabs nicely and the car runs great! I don't plan on keeping this car longer than a year, not satisfied at all. It seems like you have to baby this car, otherwise it'll break.
