is g85 really worth it??

Get the G85, you won't regret it. Also, Staple, if you are near Central Jersey, I would be glade to get you a test drive in both.
ya, i dunno wats goin on here, all im goin to say is i drove an 05 without LSD and i have my 06 now with it and you really wont be dissapointed, there is less wheel hop which i have noticed and i dont care what anyone says, and if you mod your car, its a good benefit to have.
My experience : Big difference with LSD.
The more power you have the more you need it. Car is more predictable without it but launch and turn exit speed will be limited by wheelspin.
One downfall i've noticed is in a turn with lots of throttle the G85 car can push more because both wheels are spinning but you will be going pretty fast before this happens. LSD cars can exit turns faster than non equipped cars but once you lose traction the reation is more abrubt. Sticker tires and larger dia swaybars with lowering kit helps "pegleg" (non lsd) cars with traction.. Usually the lowering kit and the thicker sways makes the suspension stiffer and helps to stop the inside wheel from unloading by keeping the chassis flatter in turns.
I have a 12.40 et Mustang that would be a 13.90 car without the LSD because I would have to reduce the launch rpm by 2500+ to get traction.
Just my experience...that being said I still love my non g85 SC. The G85 is a ton of money not to mention tryin to find a LSD equipped car plus I wouldn't give up these seats for anything .
Is anyone else making a Limited slip for these cars? Torsen?

I'm new at driving this beast, but I agree with the people sayin only get it for performance driving, if your not pushing your car on a constant basis or in really bad weather, I don't see the need for it. I feel the wheel hop and loss of traction in corners but thats only when I get on it in a really tight corner. I don't have it, and it's kind of nice becasue it's cause I have to learn to use the clutch to control the amount of power delivered to the wheel. Thats my opinon

How in gods name can you say that an LSD will not help in the 1/4 mile???
BLKSS, where in the hell are you going to lose traction if it isn't from a dig????? Give your head a shake dude and think about what your saying. Your car puts power to the ground via ONE wheel. My car puts power down via TWO wheels. Now who do you think has a better chance of getting out of the hole faster?? That is day one **** man, if you can't comprehend the pros of owning an LSD then I guess you don't really deserve one in the first place.
Aside from the LSD having a HUGE advantage over the regular tranny, the seats are absolutly amazing. IMO they SS/SC should come standard with this package.

If you are interested in racing in the future I would definitely consider the G85 because the LSD will help you regardless of what type of racing you do. Also, if you think you will like the Recaro's better than the stock seats you should get the package. It is a little pricey but I promise you won't be disappointed. I drove cars with and without the G85 and buying the one with the G85 was a no brainer for me. Look at what you want and what you can afford and make your decision based on that
LSD reply
LSD provides better traction to the drive wheels. If one wheel is slipping, the LSD will transfer power to the other wheel. Where this is the biggest problem is when the wheels are turning-winding race track with hairpin turns.
The cheap way of doing this is to apply brakes to the spinning wheel-thru a special elctronics package and to reduce engine power. This accelerates brake wear.
The best way is thru a mechanical system, called Torsen differential. This does not reduce power to the wheels, but transfers it to the wheel(s) with traction. The only disadvantage of this is that in poor traction conditions such as ice an snow, both wheels will spin with too much trottlle causing the front end to drift all over the road.
There is another mechanical system of LSD that uses clutches, used on rear whll drive GM cars such as Camaros.
I do not know what type of system is available for the cobalt.

How will a LSD not help off the line ? Two tires gripping is 100% better than one tire, think about it ......
How about NASCAR running a single spin...... HAHAHAHA or NHRA cars running single spin and trying to get down the 1/4 mile....... ya right .....NEVER f*cking happen

My current car is a 91 Cougar XR7 with a modified 5.0L, AOD, and a set of 3.73 gears. When it got some miles on it, the limited slip diff started to lose it's grip. I would launch the car hard and the rear right tire would spin and spin and spin. It made a nice cloud of smoke, but I didn't go anywhere. Driving in the rain or snow was even worse. I could never get traction... not to mention spinning donuts and powerslides just didn't happen. When I installed the 3.73s and the new clutch packs, the car felt rejuvinated and made driving much SAFER and much more FUN.
I Just picked up my new 06 Cobalt SS supercharged today at lunch. I factory ordered it without test driving one. Well I love it and the G85 Package was so worth it. I ordered the arival blue and with the recaro seats it looks absolutly awsome. The seats totaly make the interior. if anybody is unsure about the option totally go for it you will not regret it.
P.S. the limited Slip front diff is great too.

Congrads on your new SS! Super Street had a really good article a while back call "Get That Car Running In The 12's Or Your Fired" in which one of the things that was a MUST was an LSD and helped to shave a few tenths of the 1/4.
a limited slip diff will make a big diff, good choice, trust me coming from someone in RWD world it makes a big big big big difference, my dad has an 85 Z28 without, and mine with and oh does it launch a lot better
[QUOTE=Asstyme]
In a FWD car, it doesn't make a huge difference, if at all. The weight shift to the rear axle reduces most of the load on the fornt end causing wheelspin. The tires have enough problems getting traction as it is with or without the LSD. At most, you'd maybe gain a 1/10th-2/10ths of a second in the quarter mile. On a RWD car, you would notice the benefits of an LSD much more.

Seats are the best in any sub $25,000 car I've ever seen.
LSD helps alot in the bad weather. I drive around on the summer factory tires in the snow and get around alright with the LSD. Only time I get stuck is when BOTH wheels sit there spinning. If there's any traction at all to be had, the LSD will get it.
Rain traction is great as well. Very little tire slippage even on hard takeoffs.
Was worth every penny to me.

OMFG the LSd for this car is incredible to over look it as a performance addition is like adding 100hp in mods but using stock tires. I have this upgrade and its by far the best bang for the buck in complementing the cars over all performance, and to say other wise is absolutly ludicris.
When I go to the chevy website to customize a cobalt, there is nothing about a g85 package. Is it standard now or is it just not listed? There is a link below.
