Good news!
Good news!
Well guys, IDK how many of you know I busted an axle at the track a couple weeks ago, but yeah, that happened. I broke the inner CV joint in 2 pieces.
The last 2 weeks have been a frenzy trying to get SOMETHING to work, relatively cheap. First I tried GM. The stock axle is on backorder, with no estimated time of arrival. I kinda need the car back soon, rather, would enjoy driving it some this summer, so I needed other options. I checked as many salvage yards as I possibly could, and found 2 that had an axle that could have potentially worked. One said that the axle came out of a 2008 SS, when in reality, it was an axle from an ION, that supposedly matches the 08SS. I do not believe it will. The second salvage yard was in texas, and they wanted me to come down to the lot to see if it was from an SS or not, all they could tell me was that it was a 5 lug, lol. Since I am in Illinois, I am NOT going to TX to look at the damn thing. Turns out, after begging the lady to have a guy go out and look, that it was not.
NOW... onto the good news. I will be working with DSS to develop and prototype some stage 2 axles for the 2008 SS. I am pretty excited for the opportunity, and just wanted to share this with you guys. DSS has been a great help thus far, and I am happy to give them my business, and to help them gain business from the rest of the Cobalt community.
Just thought I would share the exciting news.

Could you have possibly had yours rebuilt? I know around here of a company that can rebuild, repair and even custom build to spec an axle for any car. The name is A1 DRIVESHAFTS and they do GREAT work.
In any event I'm glad to hear you're getting it sorted out. Its just hard to believe that the axle broke at all.

I too am surprised that it broke, it only took one very hard wheel hop at the very end of my burnout and it snapped. Everything was perfect up to that point.
Yeah, I am excited to be on the forefront of LNF destruction, lol. I am also really excited to work with DSS. The guy said that these axles may very well end up being rated at 500-600 hp, since the original dimensions of the stock piece was beefier than the SC axles.
i have 300 m axle shafts for TC on the shelf we have been using them in Grand Am racing since 05 ( upgraded to the larger spline outer bell way back then), you could always get these thru OTTP. Cure the hop if you want a permanent cure, you wont break 300 m axles if you hop you will break something else. Good luck with you experiment. Just sayin
So, axles from a Chrysler 300M work on the tc?! I wish I would have known this. Can you use the entire axle? Or just the shaft? Because I broke the CV joint. Do both sides interchange? Me so confused.

Well, I got the passenger side out today, and will be looking for a box to ship them out this weekend. Came out alot easier than the driver's side, thats for sure. Should be about a 2 week turnaround, so I am excited to see what comes of it.
I will keep you all informed.

no. yes you are confused. 300 m is the grade of steel used for the shaft...the joints are stock. your problem is axle hop fix it coz as you make the shafts/joints stronger you will just break the transmission case next....good luck.
