Hi, I was a member on here but haven't been on in a while so I had to change my username. Any way I have an 06 Cobalt SS/sc with 47k on it and it is stock.

I have had a growling noise in my trans and I know that it is the output shaft. I don't know if this is related but a couple of week ago my shifter started feeling loose while it was in gear.

I checked it the other night and everything seemed to be ok. Well the next morning going to work the shifter popped out of 2nd leaving my driveway, Popped it back in and kept going. Got to the top of my street and pulled out and went to put it in 3rd and nothing at all! No gears at all! Not even reverse. Got it towed to the shop and everything seems to be working fine. No broken cables, clutch or axles.

Does anybody have any idea what happened? I'm lost now. This is my everyday car and my other car is getting redone. My car has the G85 package.

PS Will the later 08-10 trans fit into the older models?

Just going through some older posts on here. Does it seem that maybe my problem is just the shifter broken? I did see some pieces of the white plastic near the shifter. If I pull the shifter out will I be able to tell what is broken?

Sounds like u broke the roll pin man it's where the shift link connects to the transmission u should be able to see it right under the fuse box

 

Thought it might be that also. I just found the link to repairing it. Will be looking into it tomorrow.

 

It definetly was the roll pin! have a new one here tomorrow.
