Haw fast can you go in first gear. I get to redline at 20mph. Is this normal?

 

probably not good. my 2.2 can hit 20 at redline

 

Our 1st gear suck in these cars......

Why not? I think whenever I'm up there in first gear its because I'm spinning tires and bouncing off rev limit. I never noticed the speed. 1st is pretty useless for acceleration, IMO.

 

Exactly, redlining the car and letting it rev like that over a matter of time hurts the car

 

Bah, thats what fuel cut is for. The motor can handle it. Rev AWAY!

 

Im not hitting the redline. Just wondering if their is something wrong with the car. I swear the first weak of me buyinh the car i hit 30 in first gear now i can only do 20 right before cut off.

 

yea man that normal . its not bad on car if u only do it few time plus u would use alot of gas

Yeah, that is one thing that I don't like about this car. 1st gear is almost pointless. Hell my old GTO would do 49 mph in 1st. I'm still not used to it. But I'm lovin' this 27 mpg with this car.

 

i have great rubber on my tires and dont spin to much and i get 30 mph at 12.5 psi redline then u slam 2nd get a chirp bring it to redline 12.5psi to 60 slam 3rd (yes stock i still get a lil chirp out of 3rd) bring it to 110 12.5psi redline.slam 4th do 130 slam 5th bring her to 147 12.5 psi and yes i have done this. personal experiences teach me to never do it again. and we learned today when ur driving a cobalt ss/sc and want to **** with gsxrs and ninja 636s then ur going to have to attempt theese speeds

When i go to work here in a little bit ill see what mine goes to and ill get back to you.

I know nothing about the Trannys in our cars but it may be different between the 2.2 and the 2.0

20mph? that seems retardedly short, I don't have a 2.0 but that doesn't seem normal to me.

maybe if you had a 6 speed? i hit 35mph in my 2.2, I don't think the gearing can be THAT different between the two cars.

 

im in 2nd easy at 30mph 2.0 ss/sc

 

35 stock for me and now a lil more with the 7000 redline
I never actually go 35 in first but i can and have.

 

I get to 30 mph in first, 60 in second, 100 in third, and high 130's in fourth. I'm stock.

 

25 second
60 third
110 fourth
havnt gotten outa 4th yet lol i'd assume 140ish?

 

See thats the problem. after i hit 20 it just revs and pick up speed real slow. I think thier is something wrong with the clutch.

cobalt ss/sc i took for a test drive it was 2007 no lsd or recaros

1st gear - 35mph
2nd - 62mph
3rd - 102mph

thats top speed it bounced of rev - limiter so thats MAXXXX

 

Sounds like there might be a problem. I hit 35 in first as well.
