I'd read the build books on replacing the tranny and see how tough it would be for you.

I'd say it's not worth it.

yea many a tools are expensive and from germany or somethin like that...essentially for the price you'd pay to do the swap an everything your better off getting a tranny with LSD in it already and installing it instead of trying install an LSD in your current tranny....USMC Field MP did his i think...he can give you some insight...he didnt put in an LSD but he hadda rebuild his tranny

$500 JUST for tools to do the swap. THEN you have to take into account the very real possibility of FUBARing your good tranny and having to buy another one.

I could NOT find the tools for the life of me. They are out there... its just a matter of finding them. I got lucky and a friend wrecked his and I bought his LSD Trans from him. HIS was an open diff when it started its life... it is now an LSD. SO the tools are out there, because he got his hands on them... and I know the dealership that THOSE tools are at now.

If you need a good case to do the swap on... lemme know. I've got MY eye ***** on your traction bars.

Trade me thinks. Although, I dunno if I wanna do that. My 1st trans is 98% okay, other than a bad 2nd gear synchro... which is sitting in my 2nd trans - which has a blown open diff and cracked case.

It is very worth getting away from the Open Diff, as they are very weak.

You can order the tools online from a place in Wisconsin.

Yeah... but a hood isn't worth the tranny to me. That's my back-up tranny in case I **** anything else up.

the differences are also very minimum if any when it comes to drag IMO. my brother has lsd, i dont, Exact mods. and we ran same times all day. also on the dyno he put down 1 extra tq (mine 233/210, his 233/211) and he also had a 2.9 at the time while i only had the stage 2 pulley...

so really is it worth all the money to do it? no

You can't compare 2 different engines like that. You might be a better track driver.

I don't really get torque steer... but I didn't really get it before either. 1st gear seems to grip quite a bit better for me... and it actually grips a little bit in the rain now. Haha.

There aren't a whole lot of times when you'll notice a difference.

LSD has NOTHING to do with torque steer. I've driven both. I have a Cobalt w/o LSD my boyfriend had one with LSD. No difference at all between the two. Mine has mild torque steer, his had much more severe torque steer which is to be expected because he had more straight-line mods.

LSD really isn't going to make much of a noticeable difference except in bad weather or in high speed turns. If you just want it to "eliminate torque steer" you're wasting money.

If you want to get rid of torque steer for good, go RWD.

So you don't think it is much of an advantage in a parking-lot Autocross?

Of course it is!!!!!!! That's what I was getting at at high speed turns (high speed in relation to the turn itself). This is why I have one sitting at home contemplating putting it in my car. However, he was talking about it strictly from a straight-line perspective.

From a Straight-Line perspective... you won't ever need an LSD/Posi driving a Cobalt. Haha...

That's what I thought, but the way you were talking, I was confused about what your opinion was. When you say "high-speed" and I'm thinking <25mph, those things don't exactly match. In my old truck, I could tell the difference just turning at 10mph, but, I haven't really driven a vehicle with this style of helical LSD much, only old school clutch types and locked/welded/spooled types (I do not recommend welded spider gears, just so that is out of the way).
