Hurst or B&M

I'm going to order a short shifter soon probably. I'd like to see what the fan base is for both. Also for those that already have one or know about both of them, which one reduces the throw the most, and which one is more reliable.

I have the B+M, but it was installed already in my car when I got it. I have no problems with it, shifts smooth, etc. If I were stock, I probably still would lean towards the Hurst, just from looks. Either way, you're making a good upgrade.

Only problem I'm having is that the B&M comes with solid bushings, and from what I've been told, thats what makes the biggest difference when it comes to shifting compared to stock.

I did just order the Hurst however. I'm gonna find a way to get those bushings though before I put it in.

the solid bushings should sway your choice bc i remember when the hurst came out people compared the two and they looked pretty much identical

i dont have either but when i do, its B&M for me cuz of the bushing

How long does it take to swap shifters, and is it preatty straight forward with regular tools?

I don't care about looks, I don't care about the style. All I want is the shortest possible throw and the most secure throw. Which one achieves that the best. I'm leaning towards the B&M but I'm not sure. The knob can always be changed.

From what I've heard about them is that they make the shifts much more sturdy and overall just better. I forget the exact wording the guy used that I asked about.

Don't waste your money. Your stock shifter is a short shifter. The only advantage to Hurst or B&M is that they "beefier." Much less likely to brake. Performance wise it does not give you that much of a gain over stock. You might gain .05-.10 of a second in a quarter mile run. I would not purchase one unless my stock one breaks.

Have you compared the stock shifter to a B&M or Hurst? I know the B&M makes the stock shifter feel like the throw on a Mack truck.

i believe the B&M claims 33% shorter and the Hurst says 28%. If Hurst would have made the shifter in polished like they originally were going to, I would buy it. I don't like the color of the new one. That and the solid bushings are why I will buy a B&M.

I Got the B&M. I love it its great. And you can tell the differnce over stok with the "shorter" throw no matter what anyone says you can feel the differnce and i was super happy.

I have a camaro also FWIW. The hurst sucks. Its basically stock long shifter and its sloppy. I went with a B&M in my camaro also and couldnt be happier.

+1 for the B&M

I also just bought a sweet ass ball for it but the cars still in storage and havent had a chance to put it on.

Go B&M for the solid bushings. They make a huge difference on feel and firmness when shifting. It also makes the 2-3 shift a lot easier and smoother.

B&M fo the mo ******' win

Not to thread hop but what about TWM
Clicky

They say its a 38% shorter throw, 2 inche shorter shaft , and has 4 bushings. Never used them just wonder what people think about them.

why change a short throw shifter for another short throw shifter?

They probably base their shift percentages off the stock Cobalt LS shifter anyway.

You aren't going to be any faster.- know it

I'm sure if you called or shot B&M an email, you could get the bushings with the Hurst. Especially since they are the same company now. Might charge you a little extra but it shouldn't be that bad.

If reducing the throw of the shifter = a faster shift, than you have a shorter 1/4 mile time.

But anyway, thanks for all of the input. Before this I was siding towards B&M and now after this I'm buying it haha. Thanks guys.

The shift may not be any shorter but the feel of the shifter while shifting is 100X better. It is a solid piece compared to the stock plastic and the difference is felt in the shifts.

I remember when i was supposed to be gettin my car last summer, i was gonna wait for the hurst because it was supposed to have a REAL short throw. A lot of people were sayin that the b&m wasnt that good and the hurst would be so much better. What ever happened to that

I haven't used the Hurst on the SS, but I had a Hurst shifter on my Mustang and I loved it.
