'I' vs. 'D' Gear

Is 'I' faster cause maybe its just me but it feels like it is...whats the difference really? Is 'I' just for getting up hills easy or something?

you are basically gearing down, thus increasing the rpms at a given speed... and in the case of some cars you get more power at higher rpms, therefore it feels like more power in I than D. And yes, this is usually for going up hills to help you climb and for going down hills to restrict your speed so you don't ride the brakes.

for some reason L and D seems different to me. when i put it in L and floor it, it spins tire going to second where if i put it in D and do that same it doesnt spin the tire. so maybe there is somehting different about those settings?

because in L you have no traction control... it's the same thing as clicking you ebrake up one notch in drive... give it a try

best way to launch 2.4 auto is to be in D, hold foot on brake, rev to 1800-2000rpm and then drop brake and give er

it increases the line pressure so you get a firmer shift.

You can also cut a hole in the floorboard of your car and pedal some to go a litter bit faster.

Off topic but does anyone know what the "R" is for? 1-5 works fine but when I put it into R after 5 (going in order from 1-2-3-4-5) I get this awful grinding/scraping sound. Is this American V-tec? I see a lot of foreign cars driving around with "R" stickers on them, so i've always wondered. The car just doesnt seem to get enough traction to accelerate once it's in R, I think the V-tec overpowers the traction of the tires. It just gets really loud and makes grinding noises as it tries to get traction.

Anyone?

I think that grinding noise is normal for the Stick automatics. At least, that's usually what i HEAR from guys next to me that have them.

L wont shift until 6300, but it wont downshift if doing s causes it to be higher than 5kRPM

I = Intermediate.

Lets it go up one more gear than L (Low), but keeps it out of overdrive.
