LNF Clutch Labor

So I called my local mechanic for an after-market clutch install labor cost. He said as long as it is stock fitment (no tinkering required.) the book hours he said was 10. He is ASE certified and has a $69 an hour labor rate. So I am looking at $690 install price by a reputable mechanic. What do you all think of this? Oh yeah I am still deciding on clutches and I am likely going to go with stock flywheel (getting it machined) and will just be getting a new clutch and throwout bearing.

That sounds pretty good. I had my clutch installed by a dealer service center and the labor was 75 an hour. It took them 9 hours and cost me 675.

Yeah I'm gonna need to do this soon and its sooo expensive! My buddy took his to a shop and quoted him 550. He got his car back a week later, (they ran into trouble, one being that one guy had took the car apart, got sick and the other guy didn't know how to put it back together so he needed to get help on that and what not) but he still charged him 550 for being patient and also changed his belt for free because he needed that done also. It sucked tho that it took a week my gosh.

I've seen them done for less, but for an average, he was quoted about right.

I think we paid $150 for mine, but it makes a difference when it's a friend's shop and you donate labor to the cause.

Based on everyone's review I think I may be going forward with this. The mechanic that I go to is great, always greets me by name and I really believe to be honest. For instance there was a time where there was some extensive brake work to be done on a 99 Neon of ours and he basically said that it not be worth doing it based on the value of the car, this means he lost out on the job, but like I said he gives honest recommendations.

Just to make sure I understand this. As in 8.1 hours of labor is required?

Mine was a bit over $800 a year ago at a local ASE cert shop but I had a wheel alignment done & the fluid was $60 for the tranny.

When they don't make anything off of your user supplied parts you can expect to pay a bit more.

They have this redeclous thing where they want you to drop the whole cradle to change the clutch.
I think you just need to remove 4 nolts on the sub frame and you can get to it. However I'm just a tire manager not a service manager or a master tech. I do notice that most master techs seem to over complicate things . So if all data or identifix says 8.1 hours they will make it 8.1 hr haha.

no can do. I rent and I am not allowed to do mechanic work in the parking lot. Besides, I lack a lot of necessary tools which would offset my cost savings too much.

Gm covers up to 12k on clutch FYI. And you take labor and do it 8x the labor rate
