Look at this blown lnf clutch

Well they finally changed my clutch. Here are the pics of the old one. Disc and pressure plate are fused together in this mess. Slave was in 3 pieces. Flywheel looks like new. Replaced it with a Spec Stage 3 complete setup.

Not sure where the spring is but Ill bet its in between the disc and plate. This happened in 1 Second downshifting from 4th to 3rd right after the Kink at Nelson

metalmedic 06-02-2011 02:44 PM

Wow that sucks....

mongorat427 06-02-2011 02:46 PM

They did the labor for free and I put my spare new trans in. Im sending the other one to ZZP for the upgrade.

Iam Broke 06-02-2011 05:25 PM

WhoooHoooo! Way to go Rat! :D

nizzle 06-02-2011 05:47 PM

Is the new flywheel you put on a lightweight one? If so, how does it drive? I heard that a light weight flywheel makes it more difficult to shift.

Iam Broke 06-02-2011 05:51 PM

Harder to DD, not shift. Learning to launch it takes a day or two, no biggie. You have to roll in more throttle or it will bog. Raising the idle to 900 helps also.

mongorat427 06-02-2011 06:01 PM

Ill find out soon I hope. They were having Hydraulic problems this morning so I didnt get it back yet

TurboTechRacing 06-02-2011 06:02 PM

Dang that blew apart!

AndrewSS/TC 06-02-2011 06:03 PM

No doubt that could have been bad, real bad.

Yep..I was thinking just that when I saw first the pic. I had the same thing happen to me racing on a road course (Willow Springs Big Track) and have seen it happen to others.
You down shift on heavy braking without properly matching (blipping the throttle) the revs! Clutch lets go and the center springs explode along with the disc. Good thing....imagine what would happen to the tranny if it didn't grenade.:) Now, if ya did exactly the same thing with a beefier clutch..guess who takes the punishment now;).
Be carefull.

mongorat427 06-03-2011 05:20 PM

Got the balt back today and after I readjusted the shifter everything is good. feels real smooth. Now I need to put 400 easy miles on it.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Iam Broke 06-03-2011 05:22 PM

Much luck with that. ;)

mongorat427 06-03-2011 05:51 PM

I think Ill take it easy for awhile for sure:twothumbs

mongorat427 06-05-2011 10:22 AM

Drove around after I readjusted the shifter and ZZP rod. Feels real good but didnt get on it yet.:lol::lol: Going to a couple car shows today to break it in some more.

conerboner 06-05-2011 10:24 AM

I'm glad I changed mine before it took a dump lol

mongorat427 06-05-2011 10:27 AM

gotboost?17 06-05-2011 12:25 PM

damn that shit got f'd up lol

mongorat427 06-06-2011 07:04 AM

:cussing::cussing: Grrrrrrrrrrr F--kin slave let go. It was the brand new upgraded one. Came out this morning and the master cylinder was allready half empty. I drove home last night without the clutch 4 miles slowly by matching gears to shift and when I had to stop I just turned the car off and started it up in first gear. F-------------kin ^$@$*&(^$#!!!!$%^$#*)_&:cussing::cussing::cussing: :cussing:

Plus I got a coon or some other critter going crazy in the back yard. He picked the wrong time to F--K with me:guns::cussing::cussing::cussing::cussing:

mongorat427 06-06-2011 08:47 AM

Figured it out allready. Those dick heads used the old slave pipe over again. The new one is still in the parts box I gave them with the new shit.:cussing::cussing::cussing::cussing:

Trent 06-06-2011 10:12 AM

Wow man, you've been through a lot!! Hopefully he picks up the labor on this one too!

mongorat427 06-06-2011 10:27 AM

Ill do it myself. I dont trust the f--ks. Every time you take the car in for service it sits for 3 weeks. My son in law is a tech and will help me.

mongorat427 06-13-2011 06:11 PM

bump

mongorat427 06-15-2011 07:40 AM

Well I paid for my ZZP trans yesterday and sent my LSD core in as well as my 4.45 gearset. Ill be on vacation till july 10th so I might get it back by then

Wangspeed 06-16-2011 07:10 AM

Sorry, but the clutch should see almost no wear from downshifting. I assume you're stuffing it into gear w/o heel-toe (or at least a hard gas blip) on the way down. This means you're using the clutch as a brake. Of course it's going to let go at some point, it's just that yours was rather dramatic.

A stronger clutch is only going to hide the root cause here. I do about 150 NLS and matching downshifts a day while I'm at the track. I'm still on the stock clutch.
