Lsd $ Wtf

Im new to the forums but I just though i would mention this i just bought a 07 ss/sc a couple of months ago but it did not have the LSD but i got it anyways cuz i realy didnt want the recaro seats but i just recently asked my dealership the price for part and to put it in they estimated me $3700.00 i can get the part for $1000 and do it myself but im afraid this will void my warranty and my salesmen wont answer me when i ask if it will he just changes the subject thanks ahead of time

the transmission needs to be removed and completly disassembled to install the diff. bearing preload also needs to be set. its not a quick easy job, i could see 14 hours to do the job.

what they quoted you was likley to get an lsd transmission from gm and have it installed. iirc the tranny is $2200, add install, shop supplies, taxes, ect.....

then get a low mileage LSD tranny and throw it in there. wont be no 2200 for the tranny alone and you will have a spare tranny for say the 6 speed conversion kit and/or the DIFF upgrade..

i bought the quaife, and the car goes into gm next week. i am getting a considerable better deal than you. im getting a new lsd, new exedy clutch and flywheel, and new driveshafty shop axles, along with new bearing/slave, flywheel bolts, pressure plate bolts, and syn oil. i dont want to sadden you with the price. see you all at the track in the spring!

PS my service manager goes to the same track as I.
Pss. not usre hes gonna agree with the spray, he may void me, but meh i dont care.

edit: i would like to add....when i ordered the car, the sales douche told me the "recaro pkg" was 2500 cdn, and that all s/c cars came with a LSD. i found out from this very forum, the day i was to pick up the car, that he was full of ****. i told him i wanted lsd, and he said that he would have to get me a different car, and that id lose my down payment. so i had to take the black one i ordered, or the red one on the lot. *%&*$^*&%)&*^()&*%^)*&%^(%^*(%&$ stealership douchbag scum. i pAid 980 for the diff, and close to half that to get the SOB installed. i even refused to pick up the car, and they drovbe it to my shop and got one of my staff to sign for it. and to boot, the fuckwad scraped the bumper on the driveway and later offered me a bottle of touch-up paint. BTW, i dont go to that dealer anymore, i found a great one that i can chat with the owner, and the service dept rocks. my only real beef is they took my car for a 65 KM joyride one day. oh well, if they broke it, im sure they woulda fixed it.

GM will not warranty the transmission after the LSD is installed. Even if it is the exact same one that GM uses and even if a GM authorized dealer installs it.
I too bought the LSD and I got the "no warranty" straight from GM.

thats fucked up these cars were built to be abused i dont care what anbody says you dont see any old lady taking these to church its all young people and thats what gm was trying to get at but soon as you abuse it they throw it against you but if you hopped in an chevy aveo and you abused it the same youd still have your warranty cuz its an AVEO not a s/c cobalt we should be able to have r fun to a reasonable limit and still be underwarranty maybe build it so it wont break no matter what then you dont have to worry about anything how r ur guyz cars that dont have lsd in summertime do they get good traction ive only driven in winter so far and the cars shown it the door came unaligned low coolant light was on but i just hope summer is better

red, they told me they are making me pay for the diff install only, the clutch flywheel and axles are free install. the wont write it up that way i think, but who really knows.
they havent voided me for racing yet. perhaps they wont, bahahahahah *dreams....

oh red, i bet your right and i get a taillight warranty on the install.
i think ill take a tech or manager for the ride of his life, and if we both live, and the car still works; odds are itll hold for a while.

Just a heads up:

I am not grading your typing but many of us find it a hassle to read the way you type.
Some of us "old" guys can't be bothered to work that hard to get your point.
The down side to that is, when you are trying to get help, you may actually cause those people who can help you to stop reading before we get to the point/question.

It will likely hold up for awhile and perhaps because they are also racers, they will work it out the best they can for you.
I know the service manager really liked the ride after I had stage 2 done but he told me that there was no way he could warranty my car, after it is finished.

That would be reasonable.
For mine, I am thinking it would likely take a Vette, Camaro, Shelby and Challenger.

im pretty stuck on the new s/c vette. but the wife kinda likes the new maro.
i think the ONLY way i could live witha 400 hp v8----is modd it to death before it left the lot.
procharge it perhaps? or radix? witha tune, a guy should be able to get a new camaro up to 600 hp without too much work, and under 10k. with live axles, itll be stronger at the track anyway.

Ditto...

(Also, remind me not to have any of my kids attend school in the Appleton, Wisconsin area...)

Front wheel drive differential units are not normally serviced when they go bad, the amount of parts and labor usually cost 70% of what a new or reman unit costs, so warranty will cover an entire unit. the parts are not the issue, its the labor.
