LuK Flywheel Updates
So I promised another member I would keep an update going on the LuK LFW285 flywheel and how it has held up. I'll update this post as I go along on mileage, although at this point the next update will be next year as the car is in storage for the winter. I also apologize if I word vomit a bit, my wife says I have a tendancy to do so, so bear with me.
Back in April of this year my stock clutch went at 74,xxx, and in the search of a flywheel that was OE styled but not OE priced I came across the LuK LFW285. My previous car (Focus SVT) came factory equipped with a LuK clutch, as do many, many other cars on the road, so I figured I would give it a shot for the $119 it cost me. So far, after 7,000 miles with this flywheel and a GMPP clutch, the car has been solid. Fitment was perfect when installing, and it has the smaller dowels that most of our clutches use. I've had zero clutch slip on it, so I'm going to assume it isn't manufactured on the thin side(cheap as the price implies). No noises, no odd vibrations, all around worth it so far. If anyone else is looking for replacement flywheels that aren't direct from GM or lightweight variants, I would suggest this one for the money. As of this posting, I've seen it anywhere from $98-$117 at various online parts retailers. Edit: Correction, 7k miles so far. |

So far so good. I remebered you had asked me to keep you updated, but I decided to keep an update going for all. As I said though, car is done for the winter, so miles will have to wait until next year. For now it's back to my 122hp 95 Outback lol

I'll probably pick one up given your initial experience, I was worried about the install and break in

My Dad has one in his car too along with stock LNF clutch. Over 10K miles on the combo and it's been driven hard with zero issue as well.
Looks like I'll be running one when the time comes too |

I'm running LUK. I've had an issue with the one of the dowel pin pressure plate locators came out somehow and got wedged behind flywheel. Glad it didn't screw anything up... But ya, bet you OE would never do that. It's a shame they are so expensive

I just bought this along with a GMPP clutch kit. Looking forward to this install.
How did you guys get around the issue with the dowels being smaller than the locating holes? My BIC pens must be too thin as the pressure plate can still move around quite a bit. |

I don't like the idea of eyeball a rotating assembly that will spin at over 6k. Think I'm going to buy an indicator and do it properly.

Allright, so a little on what abuse this clutch is about to see. I just ordered a new turbo for this summer (ZZP's new Z54 "6758"), and I'm looking to get it to about 400whp on a mild 93 tune. So once I get the turbo installed in May and get the car tuned, I'll keep this updated through the summer on how well it holds up, and give my impressions on the cheaper EFR that ZZP has now.

I'll keep you updated for sure, I'll probably make an actual impressions thread on it after driving on it for the summer. I should have the turbo by early next week, but I won't be free to get to my tuner until May so it'll sit on my toolbox at work until then. Ryan @ ZZP said it comes with all the lines just like their ZFR does, so one less thing I need to swap it in, just have to grab a few exhaust gaskets while I wait.

Certainly interested in how that turbo is, I like my KO4+ but wouldn't mind a little more pull up top.

Well, like Snail said that turbo must be interesting, it's already out of stock on the website. Ordered mine on my lunch break yesterday, UPS says it's out for delivery today. One thing I love about living only 250 miles from them, I have no reason to pay for anything more than ground shipping. Too bad I'm gonna be waiting for the rest of the gaskets I need to show up, then having to figure out when I can stay late at the shop to install it.

i dont see why it couldn't. its just a journal bearing version which means easier rebuilds, but slightly slower transitional boost response.

Yep. Instead of an 1100 supercore, im betting Central Motive could rebuild for 400-500 Eric

480 whp sounds about right on E85 for an 6758. I dont buy their claim of 540 with the ball bearing version.
