Rip #4

T-Man:
I usually flush brake fluid on all my cars once a year, cheap maintenance is better than none at all lol. I may have to start doing it more often with the Balt though, as the lack of heat shields on the Z54 definitely raised under hood temps.

Leemanfor:
I have a mighty vac with a cap setup I made to bleed the clutch when I originally installed it. Downside is I'm currently just outside of Cleveland, OH, installing a machine at a customer, and my bleeder is 400 miles away in my garage. I was just trying to find a local parts store that I could pilfer one from, but nobody has one.

Thanks for the suggestion guys, hasn't acted up again since I've been driving it everyday here, but well see how it does cruising the 6 hours back home tomorrow. Either way the new master arrived at my doorstep earlier, so I'll be flushing and installing when I get home tomorrow.

I learned to change my fluid often with my LSx cars. They were terrible about destroying the fluid after just a few good runs.

The balt seems to be no different.

What fluid are you guys using? I never had a issue.

user 72239 09-21-2017 04:14 PM

I use walmart Dot3

DOT3

I also live in AZ, I.E scorching heat

Tdubbs 09-21-2017 05:18 PM

I had a few bottles of Carquest DOT 4 that were unopened that I used on both my car and the wifes, and that's what I was using at the shop I worked at for the past few years.

Tdubbs 10-01-2017 09:12 PM

Ok, so just to update the repair since I forgot to.

Replaced the clutch master and the pressure line from the master to distribution block with a braided stainless line, and flushed the entire brake/clutch system with fresh dot4. After driving all week the issue hasn't presented itself again. Clutch pedal feels solid, and no issues with it needing to be pumped up or double clutched to shift. Brakes also feel better, not that they felt bad before so that may be placebo

Back to long term updates.

So, forgot to update this, can't find the picture but rolled over 100k.

Currently the car has 102k on it. Had to drive it more than I wanted before storing it due to the slow response on getting me a company truck. Good news is the last 6k miles was basically spent in 5th, but that puts me at 26k on the clutch with more than half being z54 powered. Still works great, still loving it.

Have to remind myself about this next year when it comes back out. Maybe if everything works the way I'd like it to go I may have some more power to abuse it with.

Pipe dreams, pipe dreams...........

So no mileage updates yet(just pulled car out 2 weeks ago), but it now has to suffer with a Z54 on E30. Quite happy how the car pulls now, so where it's at power wise is probably where it's going to stay for some time. Updates as summer rolls along.

You running E30 because you are out of fuel to go higher?

I have a fuel lobe, just still have stock injectors(black seals done) and hpfp, so I didn't want to worry about potentially running out of fuel when I went to get tuned for it. And I had asked Kevin his thoughts between E32 and E47 and he said go 32 as he ran the same timing on it as he did at 47.

Probably could have gone E47, but E32 is just as easy for me to mix, especially since I have a station I've been testing at 81-83% E even before getting tuned(last 3 months) and they sell 91 pure at a staion .25mi up the street from there.

Me and my damn wall of text lol

63 Nova SS 05-28-2018 10:04 AM

Very good. Surprised you didn't go to opels.

Tdubbs 05-28-2018 10:17 AM

I thought about it, but if I buy opels I'm going to buy an lt1 pump with it. I already tapped out my play money I had, and just wanted to get the car running again, so I didn't bother. Easy enough to change down the road.

I'm running LUK. I've had an issue with the one of the dowel pin pressure plate locators came out somehow and got wedged behind flywheel. Glad it didn't screw anything up... But ya, bet you OE would never do that. It's a shame they are so expensive

Final update on my LUK. I did end up reusing this flywheel from back in November 2015. I just re-secured the dowel with some special Loctite adhesive. 1.5 years later and at least 50+ 6000rpm launches on slicks, it's held up pretty well all things considered. BUT I'm installing a twin disc now and upon removal of the LUK flywheel I noticed that all of the dowel pins are starting to come out now. So I would say this flywheel works pretty well but it can only take so much abuse. My flywheel was one of the ones made in China. I don't think the stock flywheel would do this but I have been wrong before.

Tdubbs 05-28-2018 04:57 PM

Thanks for the update on that. Mine was stamped Germany so I'll have to keep an eye on it as time goes on. I do know I don't ask as much of mine as you did, but still good info.

63 Nova SS 05-28-2018 07:51 PM

I will probably go the other route- leave the cam alone and go for the bigger fuel pump. With opels.

Tdubbs 10-04-2018 10:55 PM

Figured I should update this. I only managed to drive 1,200 miles this year with how busy I've been at work. No issues, but I figured as much with the lack of drive time lol. So that puts it at just over 27k on the combo so far.

Snail_SS 10-10-2019 09:40 AM

Any updates on this?

T-Man 10-23-2019 07:24 PM

My old sedan with a GMPP/LuK FW + WR-3 6758 is still kicking ass. My Dad owns it and drives it very spiritedly. Not a single issue.

When the time comes, I'll be using a LuK FW in the coupe.

I ordered the LuK FW and will be installing along with a stock LNF clutch hopefully here in the next month, but I'm waiting on GM to end the strike so parts will start shipping again...

Snail_SS 10-24-2019 09:52 AM

I'm still debating if I want to go back to stop trans or just try other things and fix my vibration issue

Tdubbs 02-18-2020 11:12 AM

Sorry for falling out of the limelight gentleman, things have been very rough over the past year in life.

The car is still going strong, currently at 110k miles, so roughly 32k and still no issues regarding the LuK/GMPP combo. Currently waiting for my new fuel lines to show up so I can get it ready for the road again.

exninja 02-18-2020 11:36 AM

Thanks for the update. Similarly I'm approaching 50K miles on my resurfaced flywheel without any issues. (Resurfaced at 72k miles, 118k miles total)

Snail_SS 02-18-2020 12:01 PM

That's the combo I will be using so I guess I'll be able to chime in soon lol
