Need some drivetrain help. Exedy Clutch

Ok guys, I'll make this short and sweet. My exedy clutch/flywheel package will be here early this week. I want to make sure I have everything I need to install the drive shop axles and new clutch/flywheel. Anyone have any tips or suggestions before I start the install? My friend has a lift and went to school for car performance. He will be there to help but is there any other parts I need other then the clutch/flywheel? Do I re-use the other GM stuff like throw out bearing and ect. Should I buy the LSJ Power Build Book since it shows how to install a performance clutch/flywheel into the SS/SC? Thanks guys.

Good night, I'll check this in the mornin...

Installing This Week:
TTR Engine Mount
TTR Tranny Mounts front,back
custom triple gauge pod
AEM wideband
SS interceptor
Stock Boost Gauge
Exedy Clutch/Flywheel
Stage II Drive Shop Axles
CA H/E

You probably saw this already, but here is a how to on axles: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-guide-43/how-install-axles-cabs-56k-time-upgrade-33263/

IMO it couldn't hurt to buy the build book. Better to know exactly how to do it than have to guess. Good luck! Can't wait to see your next time slip!

i wouldnt use original throw out and pilot bearings, chances are they might be damaged on removal, not sure on milage of your car, if its newer, you probably can reuse them

I have 8k miles on the car. I called GM and for the 8 flywheel bolts (crank bolts) = 6 bucks for each one. 6x8 = 58 Then a new release bearing is like 160 bucks. This pisses me off. Just spent 1 grand on a clutch/flywheel and I prolly should replace the 8 flywheel bolts and piloit aka release bearing. Anyone install this and use all new parts or used the old ones?

Wow, I have a little more then7K on my car and Clutch is my next upgrade, and this thread seems to have shed some light on this swap out. I probably wouldn't have known to change out them bolts!

Yea, I'm just going over the intructions. Some people tell me since my car is basicly new I can re-use them. I personally feel I should buy the brand new parts considering I have had clutch problems. I can always see how everything looks once I disinstall the stock parts. If they look good I may re-use them. I was hoping someone would chime in who did this before.

More bad news for you:

Replace your slave cylinder and clutch line. The slave cylinder likes to cause trouble regardless, and the clutch line's fitting to it was revised. You might have the new part, but it's hard to say.

How do you know this? I have a 2006 SS/SC, can you please give me some more info on this? Your saying I need a brand new slave cylinder and clutch line fittings? How will the new ones be differant from the ones I already have?

I don't know when in the build process they started using the new lines. The slave cylinders themselves just seem to fail whenever the transmission is pulled, but I'm not sure on everything that is causing that. I'm piecing together info from multiple sources. I've never messed with our clutches, I let other people do that. I've been having Eco-Mod on the "other" forum put in my clutch and have been getting advice from WopOnTour.

^ ok, thanks for the advice. From what your telling me I'll have to take a chance and just buy the new parts the intructions tell me to. If it does not work after its in correctly then I know to go back and replace those to. I may be taking this a little to serious but its alot of cash inveseted in this thing.

Get a Slave cylinder and clutch line!!!!! I can't sress that enough. My car had 30 000kms on it when I put in my Exedy clutch and didn't change the TOB/slave assembly. I was pulling the trans back out the next weekend because it was leaking brake fluid inside the bellhousing. CHANGE IT FOR SURE!!!!!

Do you have any idea what caused the leak? I really wish someone could chime in here and explain to me why I would have to change anything other then the intructions tell me. The intructions say to change the flywheel bolts aka the bolts that bolt the flywheel to the crank. There is 8 of them. Also says to get new pilot bearing and release bearing. Does not talk about the slave cylinder or clutch line. Hope to hear more about this soon, come on CSS.net members! haha

This entire clutch/flywheel thing is getting on my nerves. I ordered the GM LSJ Build Book and I guess it also shows how to install a aftermarket performance clutch/flywheel. I'm sure they will show what I need to replace and what I don't need to replace. The problem is I want to have all the parts I need for the weekend were doing it.

No, not this weekend. The following weekend. Oct. 5th, 6th, 7th. Three days should be plenty of time. Friday night I'm going to take my friend out to eat and we can both look over the LSJ build book and the intructions that came with the clutch/flywheel. Most likly will just follow the intructions depending on what the LSJ build book says. If the directions match to a T I'll just get the 8 flywheel bolts, piolit bearing, and release bearing brand new from GM. Then early Sat. morning going to tow the car to his garage and get started. Take breaks and just take our time and do it right. If we run into any problems we have all day sunday to.

No, can't make it. I apoligize, was looking forward to this meet. I should be up and running as long as GM gets the parts I need in this week. I'm installing the clutch/flywheel this weekend. We can keep in touch and see what happens. Wish me luck...this is getting stressful waiting around on crap.
