the thing is...theres a difference between a true "short shifter"
and a shifter with a shorter shaft....

shortening the shaft, above the pivot point....does not make a "short shifter"

why do you think people are spending hundreds of dollars on shifters.....
if all you need to do is take a hacksaw to the shaft and shorten it down?

The geometry of a short shifter differs from the stock shifter in order to reduce the distance that the upper section where your shift knob threads on needs to move to achieve the same degree of movement in the lower section where the shift rod or shifter cables attach. This ensures that although your hand is moving a shorter distance, the transmission is still fully engaged in every gear. The main pivot point, or fulcrum of the shifter lever is re-positioned on the shaft in such a way that the lower section which connects to the shift rod or shifter cables is longer than stock, resulting in the desired effect. A TWM short shifter is carefully designed to create the optimal throw length, angular shift throw, and shift knob height resulting in the ultimate short shifter.
Im not saying yours sucks.....i was asking if its truely a short shifter or not, thats all.

a true short shifter isnt just shortening the shaft from the pivot.

It really does shorten them quite a bit? I've heard most (B&M, Hurst) don't really shorten anything they just feel more solid...

How hard is it to get used to the reduction in height? Is it uncomfortable?

dont shorten anything?!??
who have you been talkin to?
a real "short shifter" can look EXACTLY the same height as a stock shifter.....
do you know exactly how a short shifter works?

the reason I asked these questions.....is a nice little "rice" way to get a short shifter, is to just shorten up the shaft, and put the new ball on.

and because it LOOKS shorter, people think thats a "short shifter"
it only slightly changes the shift throw, due to the reduced angular distance....
but at the same time, it reduces your pivot point leverage (makes it harder/rougher to shift), and often doesnt fully engage the gear.

once again....im not saying thats the case here.... i was just asking to make sure, because it looks like the shaft has been significantly shortened....which often isnt a good thing.

whoa chill man... I know exactly how a short shifter works. I know that the shaft length is not what makes a short shifter at all.

I have heard multiple peoples say that the THROW on the hurst and B&M is not really that much shorter, but instead the shifts seem smoother and more solid. In my response I asked if the THROW was really that much short because he said "def. def. shorter" - this lead me to believe that it was quite noticeable which is not said about many others...

I then asked a completely DIFFERENT question based on the shaft length - is it uncomfortable? It looks to be way too short for my taste and doesn't look like it would make for very smooth shifts.

take a breathe bro

im just curious where people have said the hurst and B&M dont feel much shorter.
they are 25-30% shorter, everyone ive seen who has hurst,B&M, or TWM short shifters has always been very happy with them.

Well I have been on the fence between the two (B&M and Hurst), and have a little bit about each... I doubt I could go find the specific posts about how little difference is felt but I've read a few.

Honestly I'm just curious as to which one reduces throw the most, which is why I questioned this one such - if it is that much shorter then it may be a better option for me. But then again, I don't like the shortened shaft at all.

I'm sure you have a STS, which one do you have? Did you feel a noticeable difference?

As far as I know... the "PClear" short shifter is a after-market shifter from a Cavalier/Sunfire that has been "modified" to fit our cars.

My buddy here in town has one... I looked at it before he put it in... and I'm just real skeptical about it.

Hurst. the shifter height feels only slightly lower than stock....if at all.
the shifts are noticably shorter, and firmer.

Since i got it, i havent missed my 2nd-3rd shift once

im going to aim on the fact that if u know how to drive/shift, u wont need a shorter throw. its from wheel drive not eve direct shift. its remote shift. my friend bought a Hurst(ugly as hell) and blew his tranny cuz the syncros didnt fully lock onto the shaft. shredded up his syncro keys and teeth. either way. if u know how to drive ull shift fine. ppl r fooled alot when stores say "30% shorter shift." yea its a shorter shift"er" not throw. our car doesnt need it. just another mod thatll just cause problems. its a chevy not a import. our cars are about power. drive mod should be Stock/Standard.
