Shifter cable change, how hard?

My car over the past 6 months has become progressively harder to drive. 1st 3rd gear would be hard to find on hot days, then one day reverse wouldnt go, I lubed everything up and was able to get it to go, sometimes with some effort. My thoughts were I just needed to adjust the left cable, which I never had done before, but I gave it a try and it seems to have helped a bunch. 3rd was starting to migrate to the right, so I had to shove it in somewhere between 3rd and 5th position to get it to go in. Well, I got it back where it belongs, but I noticed something else I had thought would adjust out but hasnt. My shifter has little to no self centering ability. I can push it over to the right and it stays right there. You still have to manualy line up shifter to put in 3rd, tho its straight up now. Spring on the hurst shifter seems ok. My thoughts are the cable is tight/binding making it difficult for the shifter to center. Has anyone had a similar problem? How big of a pain is it to change a cable?

Sure did. It was def the shifter cables. As soon as I popped the cables off at the shifter it was obvious, one cable moved smooth, one was so tight I couldn't move it by hand. ZZP has a good price on cables, and it wasn't a bad job. Wear mechanix gloves where you can, I had a million cuts, lol. Ended up being better then before my cables went bad even, 5th and reverse so much smoother. Check out this link for adjustment help

Hi, I realize the thread is kinda old but semi revived.

First off do have an lnf or lsj? Second question, the cables from zzp are an lsj part number, lnf cables have a different part number, if you do have an lnf, have you had any issues with the cables? Or it seems they r the same cables diff numbers type thing?

Not overly important, I purchased the lnf specific part number will be installing them tomorrow at work. Just wondering more less if there's a difference.

Mine is an LNF. I noticed the cables on ZZP only after I already had mine coming, so I'm not sure, I thought it was the same part number. Did you get yours done already?
