you will like it, the shifts are firmer and more percise and you dont get the clunk when shifting. atleast it was that way for me.

yes at the bottom of the sliding piece there are 3 screws that hold the reverse lock out on, just remove them and you dont have to worry about anything. you dont even have to remove the locking pin that holds the sliding piece from coming off.

That is only part of the RLO. If you want to remove the sliding piece also it is just held on with a pin that can be knocked/pulled out, Some shifter come with this pin not installed. I have the small piece held on by 3 screws removed and no pin in the RLO so if I need to remove my boot all I have to do is unscrew the knob loosen the boot at the base and slide it off with the RLO attached it the boot. The larger piece of the RLO is an easy place to attach the OEM boot. It's all easy.

Haven't you ever seen the pics of the rat driving the hot rod with the 8 ball shifter and flames shooting out of the exhaust? IMO the 8 ball is played out and is just cheap rice.

The 2.2 and 2.4 Cobalts do not have RLO. The Cavalier does, so the Cavalier shifter does.

I feel like that metal knob could get really hot...does it?
and you can leave the RLO on right? are there benefits of taking it off?

RLO is useless to us, but doesn't hurt to leave it on

I haven't had problem with the knob getting to hot, but with the shifter I had in my Cavy it get very cold in the winter. as for removing the RLO, it's a matter of how you want it to look. IMO if you use the knob that comes with the shifter keep the RLO and use it to hold up the boot. If you use another knob remove the RLO.

so my short shifter came in today, it took me a while to figure out to install it, and took a good 2hrs, and im still not done..welli am, but i need to put the center consol back...leme tel u, it was a bitch for me, on the round thing that clips onto the shifter assembly the one you have to tilt and use a screwdriver to push toward the center and pop off, well i broke one of the little clips u needed to push tot he center, woops...and after that it took me forever to relize i had to unclip those 2 plastic things on there, like i read the instruction but it took e awhile ot know what it ment, i didnt know which part was the one i needed to unclip, on the part that stocks out, the part that moves when you go to 1st and second, there was a smaller ball, the stock shifter had a plastic thing covering, do i put that on the short shifter too? or do i leave it like that? cuz i left it like that...what else...well..i cant wait to see the diffrence it makes tommorow, ima go for a lil "cruise"...but one more thing, is it me, or does the stock shifter look alot like the short one? idk? i kinda put them side by side, and they looked relatively the same, hmm, must just be me, then again i had the shift knob on the short one so that coulda been y...

You need to put that plastic cup on your new shifter.

Ebay shifter is good Quality and the throws are shorter than stock, TWM,s throws should be shorter because with the TWM you need to cut the shifter base for clearance.

here's another thread https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/drivetrain-79/will-cosmo-racing-cavalier-short-shifter-fit-2-2-2-4-a-69028/
