And 2nd is i get bad wheel hop. i have heard that the torque dampner gets rid of the wheel hop has anybody else installed a torque dampner? thanks

1. Yes your clutch is slipping.

2. Yes you will get wheel hop. If you want to get rid of it get a damper or new mounts.

it seems like the people that fry their clutch are always the best drivers just teasing, it's actually a very common problem that people have with the cobalt.

but seriously, this clutch is VERY weird, and takes a lot of time to get used to. it's very different than any other car i've ever driven. You have to make sure that the clutch is ALL the way out before you hit the gas, otherwise it will slip. i took my driving test with a manual, i'm 26 now, and it took a few months for me to get used to the car, even though i've driven manual cars since i first started driving. when shifting, just let the clutch engage all the way first and you should be fine.

as far as the wheel hop, yea this car sucks for that. i doubt i'll ever mod a fwd car again. with the mods i have now, i can't really go WOT untill 3rd gear, and with stage 2 that's somewhere between 70 and 80. and that sucks. i have the ingalls damper, and prothane tranny mounts, and 16" wheels right now, it doesn't hop anymore, but still spins like a ****.

I have driven many manual cars and this Cobalts clutch is different thats for sure, the release point on it is alot later, its not a even 50/50 clutch pedal / gas pedal like most manual cars, its mroe like 80 / 20 (Clutch be 80% ully enguaged before you start pushing the gas pedal down)

Anyways you wil lget used to it, hell i fried my first clutch, i was a idiot and didnt learn how to drive it, but now i just hop into the car with my new clutch and off i go, its simple for me now and it will be for you to.

yea, it's hard. i drove my friend's mazdaspeed 3 last week, and even though that was the first time i had ever driven the car, and it was only for a very short distance, i felt like i was able to shift it so much smoother than my cobalt.

my clutch was doing the EXACT thing. i guess i didnt realize i was..

1. riding my clutch(before my clutch is engaged, my pedal has like an in. of play but when racing that in. of play caused a BIG problem)
2. when shifting i had my foot on the gas pedal just enough for the RPM'S to rise before the gear was engaged.

my suggestion see if your on the clutch pedal when shifting.

yeah i think the cobalt clutch is different to drive. i had a 93 mustang GT and that clutch would engage as soon as the pedal moved an inch and it was stiff as hell going from that to the SS was hard for me to get used to
