i own a 2007 cobalt ls 2.2 5 speed and was wondering if my trans and the one in the SS are the same or different transmissions?

Which SS? Your transmission and the 2.4 SS, now known as the "Sport", DO have the same transmission. Your transmission is NOT, however, the same as the SS/SC.

the 2.4 L has a different final drive but same transmission otherwise. SS/SC is way different

this sucks

so since mine is different can i still swap it out for the SS trans? are there any mods i would have to do and would it be worth it?

To my knowledge, no, cannot be swapped and if it could there would be a lot of issues involved with it. So no, probably not worth it.
