Upgrade to SS axles?

I did some searching around and didn't find any answers yet.

My question is Can you upgrade a base model axle to a SS axle that has the carrier bearing with intermediate shaft?

On my base model 5 speed tranny (f23) The little retarded axle is one long piece all they way out to the passenger side wheel. Where the SS models have the intermediate shaft with a carrier bearing and separate axle. If that makes sense. I just don't like this design on the base model transmission. With being lowered on Coilovers it seems to put a lot of angle on that axle right out of the transmission at the seal. And my seal has been replaced like 4 times now and keeps leaking.

I think it would be nice if I could install an upgraded axle that uses the Carrier bearing to not only strengthen the axle a bit but also keep it at a straight angle out of trans where the axle seal is.

Not sure if these parts are cross compatible or not. Anyone with some input?

I think the splines inside the trans are different so that would mean that no you can't

That's what i was afraid of.

Obviously I'd rather just upgrade to the better transmission but right now that is not an option for me.

If you can find a wrecked ss that you could get the axles from cheap, it would definitely be worth finding out though. Nobody has ever tried it that I know of

The f23 and f35 axles are completely different and not in any way compatable. Basically the f35 uses an intermediate shaft while the f23 does not (which you already mentioned, but even if you could get the intermediate shaft to fit somehow, you would have no way of bolting the supporting end in), the splines are different, the over all axle lengths are different (aside from the obvious intermediate shaft difference), and the hubs are completely different.

So no, SS axles won't work in an f23 unfortunately.

Thanks a lot for the input guys. And banker I know those would be stronger but I hate how the f23 passenger axle is so long with nothing to support it.
