Watched someone shift into reverse...

...while coasting forward in neutral at 25 mph. (auto)

Cobalt just slowed down really quick, like he just downshifted a manual, and then his gas pedal didnt work once he realized what he did and put it back into drive...

Coasted to a stop, turned the car off and turned it back on and it worked just fine after that.

Do our cobalts have a sensor so that they dont shift into reverse while driving forward and instead go into a neutral state to save the tranny?

this was on mythbusters.... cars have a mechanism that keeps them from shifting into reverse when moving forward (manual and auto)

reaally because a long time ago i was cruising on the highway and somebody was tailgating me. I tried to put it in reverse to turn the lights on just to scare them, but all i got was some gear grindage. . . . . I never let out the clutch either, it was always fully depressed.

i used to have a switch in my tempo that would turn on the brake lights... people were always tailgating me hard in the snow, so i installed that to shake em.

They didn't have that feature onb older cars. I had a 81 Olds cutlass that I accidentaliy put in reverse while doing like 35 and it locked the wheels up and popped all my belts off.

I was so excited after pulling my Sy off the flatbed because it was getting tuned. I forgot it was still in reverse. (Did not have the truck running) I just slowly used the brakes and went down the flatbed. When I tried to start it, it would not start. Scared as hell, I finally realized you can't start the truck in reverse. DOH.

I was being tailgated by a sentra real bad when Blurple and I were out cruising and I was at the point where I didn't care about my Cobalt so I just stood on the brakes and waited for him to hit me. He had to stand on his brakes too with smoke screaching from the tires and he practically hit me. It was too close to call. Then he swerved around side me and acted all dumb. I really didn't give a **** but I was glad I made him **** his pants for being a rice gobbling d-bag.

I'm not gonna lie I've shifted my auto Cav into reverse while moving forward (albeit very slowly) and haven't had any problems.
