What causes wheel hop?

What exactly happens when the wheel hop occurs? Obviously the wheels hop but I assume it has something to do with the engine moving? I have a TD installed but I guess its not tight enough. I still get hop launching at just 1500.

im no expert but that is bogus... i can just be cruzin in 1st or 2nd gear and hit it not using the clutch and i get wheel hop. and as for learning to launch... im sure your killing your clutch in the process we all know how bad the clutch slips when you feather it. anyways just my .02
