Where to get Clutch alignment tool?

Well, I have a Stage 3+ Clutch going in my car as I write this, but Spec didn't ship an alignment tool. I called Spec and they said they don't have any that ship with the kits.

Where can I get an alignment tool? My local dealership said they don't sell them. Any advice or part numbers would be appreciated.

Thanks

You aren't the only one to be asking that question. There was just a post on RL forums about it. http://tinyurl.com/pjxhf

WopOnTour said a universal tool should do the job.

How's the install going so far? I was suprized at the size of the disc, I expected it to be much bigger and it's not very thick either.

It centers the Clutch to the flywheel when attaching the pressure plate so it all goes together nice and neet.

Well at the point we are at the point where we need the tool to put the clutch on and center it. I called both Spec and Clutchmasters and nobody has a tool they ship with the clutch's.

They did say an s10 or Camaro alignment tool should work since the splines are the same. All they do is put tape at the end of the tool.

That was one of the first things I did and no luck.

I'm going to stop in to a dealership tommarow and see if I can borrow their tool for an hour which is mostly unlikey, but it's worth a try.

I would think that you would have better look at private garage then a dealership. You could always leave ur liscence for collateral. Hopefully they'll be cool bout it tho.

Yup, Rob told me he installed it using a socket and extension. I just want to make sure we do this correctly the first time. It's not about the cost of a cheap tool, but about doing it correctly. Ya, and I did check out E-bay....no luck..hence the reason I posted on here as a last resort to ask if anyone else knew something we didn't before we went that route.

Why take a risk and screw up a $600 clutch because you didn't use a specific cheap tool. It just sucks nobody seems to have one available, yet advertise them as coming with the clutch kits.

Ohh well, I guess we will have to go the Camaro alignment tool route or like Rob said... socket and extension to align it all up.

I agree that does suck. They charge enough for the discs it should be included.

Guys,
Iv'e installed a few clutches in my life so i was skecptical as well. I called spec and was told the design used on the cobalt doesn't need an alignment tool!

Well he was right. The way the input shaft is on the transmission, only a rough "by eyesight" alignment is needed. The transmissions slides right in with no trouble at all! The input shaft has a nice taper to it and filing the grooves in the clutch helps as well.

I have had harder times when i've used the correct alignment tool getting the old muncies and T10's installed

Don't make it harder than it needs to be!

Well, we followed Rob's advice and the clutch went in smoothly. Thanks

We used a socket and extension to line it all up. Very easy....
We had to adjust the shifter cables after the install which was pretty easy.

Clutch pedal feel on the Spec 3+ was almost like stock with a little bit stiffer pedal feel. The pressure plate sure bites..... and the clutch grips great. I put 500miles on the clutch and then started to get on it. This thing grips, no slipping and chirping gears on every shift.

Feel like I regained another 50hp..lol.... but it's just because my stock clutch was slipping. The difference is amazing.

I would NEVER attempt to install a clutch kit without one. Alignment of the input shaft on the tranny, to the clutch disc would be a pain in the a$$.

KY clutch kits come with them for free.

KY's alignment tool is awfull unfortunately. I had one hell of a time trying to align the input shaft to the clutch with the stupid thing, and it still feels like it's binding a bit....
