Who gives a **** what people say. If you're driving like ****, your clutch will go and that will be the evidence. If not, there won't be a problem.

He's talking about his PMs with me. He's telling me he needs an aftermarket clutch because his car can't handle the power of stage 2, intake, exhaust. I told him he doesn't need to upgrade it. He's already replaced the clutch once before and that car has less than 50k miles. He's about to be on the 3rd clutch. It's obviously driver error

Dude don't listen to the bullshit. Only you can tell if your clutch is slipping, I mean if whoever told you that, hasn't driven the car, then how can they say for sure that the clutch is slipping; you'll know man. Shift where ever the **** you want. The stock clutch is made to hold up to the power the car has, obviously. As long as you're not being a complete moron you are fine.

Coming from someone who doesn't exactly "take it easy" on my car, I know. I don't beat the **** out of it, but I know what it's capable of, and clutches aren't that easy to **** up. When my friend learned how to drive manual on his Cobalt, he would constantly ride the hell out of the clutch, and I've driven his car; definitely no slippage.

You're misunderstanding him, shadow. No one is telling him it is slipping, he came to that conclusion on his own. Because of his poor grammar and punctuation it reads as if someone is telling him it's slipping when really different people are telling him what might be causing it to slip. His post should read something like:

"My clutch has been slipping. People are telling me the reason is because I drive my car nice. How is it possible if I don't drive my car hard? I don't shift under 3k. So what could be the reason my clutch is slipping? In addition, why are people suggesting that I get an OEM clutch instead of aftermarket when I replace this one? I think that with my mods I need and aftermarket clutch. Correct? And how come people are being dicks and telling me to take driving lessons? My other car is also stick and I haven't had any problems with it".

EDIT: Yes, I realize my translation doesn't make sense in certain parts (ie. the part about driving the car nice or hard) but that is what he wrote. I think he's confused a little or doesn't know much. The reason I get this is because he says "I drive my car nice and don't drive it hard" but also mentions that he never shifts below 3k. Shifting below 3k is NOT driving hard nor is it better or worse for your clutch to shift at 2,500 vs 3,000.

EDIT EDIT: crazywhiteboy89, you said during our PM conversation that you were from Carteret. That's very close to where I live. If you wanted to meet up one day I could take your car for a spin and see what sort of problems you're having and I might be able to give you some better advice. It's hard to understand the way you type and as a result it's harder to give you advice.

the cobalt is a different car to drive with a manual. takes some getting used to. if you're going to be going on your 3rd clutch with 50,000 miles, it's driver error. i know, no one wants to hear that because no one wants to think they don't drive properly. my guess is you're riding it too hard on the upshifts, or are not rev-matching properly.

unless you somehow had a bad factory clutch, and had it replaced with another bad factory clutch, then it's driver error. like i said probably from slipping it too much on upshifts and not properly rev matching down shifts.

do you rev match?

because the damage to the clutch is done from consistently shifting wrong... it gets glazed over and cant hold the power when your in gear.
