Won’t go into reverse?

Hey guys I’m kinda new here. I just bought an 06 cobalt SS and I’m having trouble going into reverse. The only time it will go is when I’m rolling backwards. The guy I bought it from said the tranny was recently rebuilt so I was thinking whoever did it screwed up. But then on another forum I was reading that the SS has a reverse lockout that you have to pull up on. Mine doesn’t have that. Do all SS/SC have reverse lockout? The guy before me put an aftermarket shift *** on,

you think he messed with it?

The reverse lockout is part of the shifter. The raised tab on the passenger side of the shifter is the lockout part. It could require some cable adjustment or as with these transmissions put it into first then reverse. I literally do that out of habit in every manual car now from doing that in my cobalt for years.
