E85 DYNO M62 2.5 vs 2.8
Client wanted to dyno his LSJ
E85 / 60s / 50/50 7gph W/M injection on 2.5 pulley Ported m62 - 2.8 and 2.5 used zzp 3" CAI Badmab shorty ZZP 3"-2.5" catless DP with cutout and block off plate zzp 2.5" catback Unfortunately due to the dyno outside temps being 80-85* on the dyno and the stock intercooler system being insufficiently bled or simply insufficient, the IAT2 hit 160-170* F. every pull. Was hoping to show my client that his car can hit 300whp, and of course join the 300whp M62 club. It came close though... https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...71176172_o.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...15114109_o.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...44395931_o.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0quT...ature=youtu.be Please visit my 91 octane fueling myth thread for more information on WOT fueling using pump gasoline. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/dyno...s-fact-230350/ |
Was into this on FB too
|
Powerband difference is really interesting
|
Saw this on FB. Nice.
|
Do you think with a remedied IAT2 temp and say a longtube header instead it would have done 300whp?
|
More than likely
Fact is Easy 276whp on a 2.8 pulley at 16 psi with bolt ons and E |
Good stuff Steve. Nice Contributions :)
|
aren't you maxed out with fuel with only 60's and E85 and a 2.5?

you should not have any problem hitting 300whp with your cooling issues sorted out ... in for cooler days !!
i will have e85 on a 2.8 soon hopefully get a dyno day in shortly as well |
with the cooling issues sorted I have no doubts that 300whp on his budget header/dp combo would of been attainable.
Any LSJ/M62 can hit over 300whp with the following mod list, so long as IAT2 temps stay under 140* F. by redline. M62/2.5 (ported blower helps) Any exhaust combination works (BADMAB, midlength, long tube, 2.5 or 3" Dp and catback) 80s, e85 LS4 (stock tb works too) Doesn't even really require pushing the tune that hard. Why strain the blower and engine @ 20-22 PSI for only 300whp though? 16 psi yields an easy 275whp... TVS at the same boost pressure would yield over 300whp on e85 and basic bolt ons. |
It is still interesting to me that you gained power by going leaner on a blown LSJ. On the dyno I started really rich, around mid-low 10's and gained 16whp by leaning to 11.3-11.5. As I approached 11.8-9 I lost 2-3whp. However, there is a large flow difference between the M62 and TVS and other airflow factors such as my ported head, so the airflow characteristics vary quite a bit. Also curious, what heat range of plugs were in the car being tested?
|
That just crushed my dreams of ever hitting 275-280 WHP without E85. I've got a ported head, Ported LIM, Single pass, and an LS4 throttle body on top of what your client has. Along with a much better cooling system than them. I'm also not using methanol injection. I have the kit but my unit that activates it is garbage.
I'm thinking of just giving up on the Cobalt and moving onto another car then... |

Bkr7e coppers Darkchild Don't give up, I can sell you a solid kit from AIS that works with quality parts |

I too was impressed by the jump from 10s to 11.5-11.6 |

All I really want is a car with a solid power-band. Right now I need to find parts that GM doesn't even make... I wish my car ran, period. I will definitely make a new thread when I tune my car. I suppose I will be happy with 260 WHP because it's just a number. My goal is to run high 12's on slicks. No LSD though... I see these new 5.0 Mustangs netting low 12's easily and it discourages me because I drive a Cobalt. |

Steve, hopefully you can net my car in the 300 whp club.im already planning a trip up there, as is much cooler now.
|
No need for colder plugs on e IMO.

Some good info...I'm working on a e85 toon uh i mean tune. I know that ET trap method isn't the best judge of hp but i'm trapping 106-107 consistently with 2.85" Pulley,80s,cut air box, pacesetter (with the ball flange removed and 3" vband welded on) and a 2.5" cat-back. and cxr heat exchanger. 106 107 trap has to be in the ball park of 280-290whp. iat never go above 135, i think if you got your iats down 300 on a 2.5 with w/m injection on e85 should be doable.
on another note do you mind me asking what kind of timing you are running (i understand if you do ...business and all)past 5.8krpm i see knock with anything over 22* which i find odd because i was running 21 on 93oct. |
a good stage 2 lsj can run high 12s with a good driver.
considering you only gained 10hp for pushing 6 more psi on a rediculously sized pulley its definately more worth running a 2.8. heck a 2.7 maybe. its gotta be cold enough for more pulls now! 2.5 sounds awesome though |
I am glad my stage 2 hub won't allow me to run smaller than a 2.7, because I'd have at least a 2.6 on there like I did with the TVS lol. 10whp and 15 ft/lbs is a nice gain in my book, and at the same AFR its more like 12whp and 16tq. Worth it for the temps? Maybe not, but makes for fun times.
|
2.6 is what im planning on!
|
I got my car running last night. Time to register it and get this 91 nonsense out and put in on the sauce :) Just in time for winter :(
