2006 Cruise Control?
2006 Cruise Control?
Did a few quick searches and didn't turn up anything other than the threads for 2007+ cars.
Looking to put the factory cruise control in my 2006 before a road trip I have planned in April. It's a base model, so the likelihood of the car being pre-wired is probably pretty slim. For that I ask:
Is there a connector somewhere under the dash or under the hood that would confirm the car is pre-wired?
If it is pre-wired, what all would I need to make the conversion?
Anyone have any experience with aftermarket kits?
Thanks!

imo the aftermarket kit would be much easier than slapping on a new steering wheel simply to have the buttons.....the company we go through at our shop has step by step instructions on how to install the cruise control (with pictures too)...you should have no trouble installing an aftermarket kit considering that the cruise control is electronically controlled rather than mechanically....will save you quite the headache. good luck buddy.
I am not sure if you can swap out for a 2007+ steering wheel. swapped 07 for 07 to get cruise, and the stereo on the wheel, plus it is the leather wheel over the rubber/plastic wheel on the base unit.
It ran me $60 shipped from LKQ on eBay. You still have to take it (should the wheel work and be plug and play) to the shop, or anyone with a GM Tech II scanner to have the unit "turned on". Find a small shop with the unit and they will charge you about $20. Find a dealer that will do it, and most likely your talking about 1 hour labor time of ~$80. it takes 5 minutes if you know where to look, and 15 if the guy is dicking around looking for it.
I guess the real question now becomes. Does the '07+ wheel work? Is the same plug going into the steering wheel column on the 06 and 07? My wifes base G5 was still wired for the stereo and cruise, even though it was not optioned. Just had to get the rest.
Swapping steering wheels, should it work, is only about a 20 minute job. The swap to add the functions if its all plug and play plus dealer activation should be right around $150 total. Not too bad to add since it was a much more expensive option from the factory. Hope some of this info helps. Sorry I don't know much from the 06 to 07 fit. You will have an added expense of finding the correct, new shaped air bag, which could be expensive.
