2007 Cobalt Head Unit Harness For Alpine Radio

I am looking for any information from anyone that has installed an Alpine Headunit in their 2007 Cobalt. It appears there is some difficulty with harnesses, Cobalt Addiction only has it for the 05-06 models. If you have any pictures, diagrams, stories, etc. I would appreciate anything you share.

i am looking at passing my HU down to another member and I want to make sure everything will work correctly and that they have what they need before receiving it. Thanks everyone.

That is wonderful. Would you be willing to share anymore information about it? What is it called, where did you get it, how much did it cost, etc. Some pictures would be great! Thanks for dropping us the information.

well, pics would require me taking my dash apart and digging the box out. thats a bitch.

i can get the part number on it when i get a chance too. they are working on one that has the steering wheel controls and the can bus box all rolled into one. the chime is optional, you can turn it on or off. your choice. price, i can not disclose that, because someone off here will call them and say that they want it at this price because so and so got it.

being that it is a prototype right now, there is some issues with it, such as the accessory side of it. the car needs to be in the run position to turn on the head unit and such things. that is all being worked out as we speak. so the time it hits the market, IE your hands. it will work perfectly everytime.

Well I had a sony deck installed a week ago and they didnt use some big harness that cost 100 dollars to keep "my airbags" and everything. They just hooked up the deck. I lost my door chimes. I only lost those because the actual "chime" sound is a file that was embedded in the stock radio. I also just bought a brand new alpine deck. the CDA-9885, and again, they assured me that everything would work fine and I wouldnt need any harness to keep all of my functions. My installer even showed me where the airbag sensor computer was and it is located under the radio. Just sharing my experiences.

Thanks for sharing that. Yes, you can hook things up without a harness of course. The wiring diagram helps tremendously. From past experience and I am sure others share this with me, I would prefer a harness that just plugs and play so I have the ability to swap it out without re-splicing and soldering anything. That is my preference of course and I am glad to hear yours worked out!

If you have onstar or a pioneer system the metra part number is GMOS-LAN-04, if you have neither of the above I believe the part number is GMOS-LAN-03. They are a bit pricey but that is because of what they do for your vehicle. As far as the airbags or whatever that is false. Yes, the airbags don't play a role, however if you don't use the right harness your ECM is going to read a constant error code. Do whatever you want but I suggest getting the right harness, if it wasn't necessary they wouldn't make them.

Well I called metra and said I don't care about the chimes, turn signals, or RAP, just want to install head unit and go! This said this will work...

http://www.installer.com/item/displa...php?it=70-2104

Has anyone tried using this? The seems like a good solution. It is a 70-2104 by Metra and I don't really see it anywhere else. Metra said there is not too much information about the product. He told me it will work on all radios even with the pioneer amplified system.

Also found this as well...

I spoke to the dealer AND best buy about installing aftermarket headunits. They said if you don't use the expensive harness, it can damage the car because part of the computer is in the radio. Apparently Best Buy got sued a ton for not using it and now they require people only to use the expensive one. Thats why I just upgraded my 06 to 06 mp3 model.

Yeah I've seen that for the sake of having everything run in perfect harmony and keep the computer's car happy, you should use the more expensive version. However, look at who you talked with as well. Of course they will sell you something like that. From the GM standpoint, they need to use the best device to keep everything as close to factory as possible and to still be able to run diagnostics without any worry. Best Buy getting sued, haha. Boy, they will make up anything. Every single Best Buy I go to makes up a different lie. Why? <rant>My bet is because they want to look like they actually know something because they suck and that is why they work there.</rant>

Lorenwade, did you use a radio from a pioneer system or regular system.
