2008 Cobalt Remote Keyless Entry

One of my factory RKE fobs crapped out due to the clip inside that holds the battery broke loose. Other one is fine and works normally on the car.
Owner's manual says, when the dealer replaces the fob, the original one must be matched to the replacement. Reading this, I am under the impression I must take the original AND the car to the dealer to have this done? It would be a lot easier to take just the original remote only to them. Is is possible to match the new one to the original one without the car present??????

Thanks!!!

My selling dealer (super folks) are about 85 miles from my home. 5 days a week, I drive right by them, but am in my company car with the G5 home in the garage. If they could program the new or both remotes WITHOUT the car present, it would save me a lot and still get to deal with them.
Ha... I guess maybe that did sound kinda funny until you knew why...
