Making an antenna shorter is going to make you lose reception...period. If you look on ebay, you can find shorty antennas that have an amplifier on them, and in most cases work better than your stock antenna. You can get them for about 40 bucks.

The antenna is actually darker than that... its almost like the gunmetal on the SS/SC rims.

Looks brighter due to camera flash

I cut my factory one, I didn't really notice a reception change, but I rarely ever use the radio, I have sirius.

I got that one, took 5 secs to install. Took it through the automatic car wash and it took the little round thing off the top,so there is a piece of wire sticking out. O well. Automatic car washes eat cars alive.

later

Buy one, don't cut it. If you just cut it to some some length you will change the frequency / wavelength it was designed for.

I hate those, they are rubber and if your car is fast enough it will bend and look gay later on down the road.

I found the same problem. I feel I have a solution in my tool box. I bought a amplified antenna from Auto zone.

It is designed for what we are doing. It is hard to describe other than it is not your usual antenna. It is powered and I plan on attaching it to the bottom of the deck just inside the trunk.

next weekend I will do the install and provide pics! plus you can see packaging etc. to know what to look for. I would go and get pics right now but I am finishing a course and I have to get ready to write for friday, papers to finish, etc. alot of bullshit work but then I will be done for the weekend. then I'm into another course - psychiatric medicine. I actually will get experience working psychiatric patients. should be interesting.

By the way my radio reception is not to bad and is non existant in underground parking with no antenna. we will solve our problem with this antenna. if it does not work well in the trunk we can place it inside the car on the glass of the rear window up high or low as this is where this antenna is supposed to go.

EDIT: an afterthought of how it can be described - If you go to autozone it is probably the only antenna that is powered and comes with a cable. It is considered to be universal fit. It has the black amplified box with to lexan flexible antenna pieces coming off the little box. it attaches with two way tape.

FWIW, I got the antennax shorty for $13 and I don't notice any difference in reception. Comes with a bunch of adaptors, too, but none were needed. Just unscrew the stock one and screw this one on top.

Ironically, I didn't get it for looks, so much as I hated hearing the stock one wobble from inside the car for 30 seconds every time I hit a speedbump . . .

I just cut mine and put a tip on it, no loss of reception, and it looks cleaner than the plastic atennas.
