Avic D3 Install Questions on SS / Speed Control Sensor / Parking Brake Bypass

I just installed the Avic D3 in my SS. I didn't have enough time to do everything though. I spent more time on modifying my dash kit so that i could actually make the unit fit in my car. So right now i haven't bypassed the parking brake, Illumination wire, and Speed Control Sensor. Does anyone know how to bypass the parking brake on this unit? Does anyone know what color the Illumination Wire is and where to find it? Does anyone know what color the Speed Control Sensing wire is and where to find it? Also if anyone has the PAC Steering Wheel Control Module already installed do you have any tips?

Just so you guys know this unit is great. I have the ipod connection and the interface is really nice. The nav is also good. But the best part is that i got this unit for $696 + $12 for shipping. http://www.electronicsbonanza.com/co...ku=10483&src=g
It was out of stock for a little while but i had them email me when it came in and i bought it immediately. This unit is well worth the money.

Thanks for all of your help

It looks like its out of stock, again. But $700 is cheap for something like this. I was considering just getting a double din DVD player (Minus Navigation) for like $400 or so. I notice Pioneer has the new 7" models that have 3d navigation and the integrated harddrive instead of using DVD's. Man those are really nice, too bad its $2,000.

Sorry I cant help you with the rest of it. But I did give you a free bump :-)

I have a D-2.. i was told they are the same connection..

On the harness that plugs into the D3, on the bottom right side there is a free pin.. you must pin this open hole, and run the wire to a ground.. then you will have the parking brake by-pass.. as for illumination, it should be orange from the deck.. run it to your red power wire.. i think technical term is "accesory wire"..

hope this helps a little bit..

dont hook up illumination. over time it will blow out the unit. it hooks up to ur lights and everytime ur lights change so will the unit just like our stockers. the bypass is different from what i know. i just did it on my friends car a couple weeks ago. i looked online and saw that u have to revome the mute wire from the seperate harness. insert a grounded pin into that spot and ground parking break. let me see if i can get that page i used to get this by pass to work.

Yea but if you don't hook up the illumination line it looks like you have your interior lights on at night. How bad could it possibly be to hook up that line?

The speed sensor wire I used on my 07 5 speed is right at the pcm under the hood I cant remember which connecter it was but if you open the plastic harness cover there is a purple wire and a yellow wire twisted together I used the yellow one and it works perfect
All the other wires are seperate just those 2 are twisted together hope this helps

you can set the illumination to auto or illuminate.. i keep mine on auto.. during the day its bright. at night when there is no light hitting the sensor, the unit dims.. its like our auto headlamps feature.. same basic idea.. light outside, lights are off.. goes dark out, lights come on..

i didn't realize it had a light sensor on it. I was wondering what that little thing was to the right side of the CD slot. I'll definately use that. I just wouldn't think they would put an illumination wire on something unless it was needed. Does anyone know if it is worth it to use the speed sensing wire or not?

The steering wheel control is the SWI-PS from Pacific Accessory Corporation. This is the link on how to install it in the cobalt. http://www.pac-audio.com/swixprogram...ehicles&ID=343
I am actually installing mine right this second. I bought it off of Crutchfield.com because my brother gave me a gift certificate and i got it for $69.99. I'm pretty sure you will be able to find it somewhere else for cheaper though.

I just installed the steering wheel interface SWI-PS. The directions in my last post worked perfect. I also did the parking brake bypass and that also worked. I also hooked the switched 12V wire up to my sun roof fuse instead of the one Crutchfield reccomended so that now when i take my keys out of the car it still keeps on running until a door is open. I had to change the fuse from a 15A to a 10A in the panel so i wouldn't blow out the head unit. The fuse hasn't burned out yet by running the sunroof and the radio so i'm pretty sure it will be fine. The worst that could happen is i burn out the fuse and i will have to find somewhere else to hook it up to. The only thing i haven't figured out yet is a good way to hook up the speed sensing wire. If anyone has some detailed information on that please post it. Thanks.
