Avic-f900bt

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...sh/AVIC-F900BT

this is the unit that I'm looking to get, I found it for $599 and am ready to buy, I've hooked up stereos before, I'm not conerned about installing it, but all the units that I've installed, the cars had trim pieces that pulled off, then the unit bolted in, and the trim piece went back over, and made it look all pretty, the cobalt is a little different it seems.

is there some sort of mounting kit or trim piece i can get to make this unit fit in the console right? and look all good? also, i read somewhere, I don't know if was this site or another, but do I have to modify anything in the dash so it fits? like brackets or something? because the unit is too long?

I have a 2008 SS/TC, I know that I have to buy various certain harness(s) and such to keep my steering wheel controls working, and my door chimes going, I figured since this was a 2008 that id ask and see if anyone sees any issues with this?

thanks
-Jeremy

I'm getting my AVIC-F700BT installed tomorrow. All the Harnesses and Kits you need are in the FAQ sticky thread in the Electronics section. From what I have heard you might need to cut a piece of metal bracketing or something like that to get it to fit in all the way, but supposedly it's not a big deal.

Also, you could save $200 by going with the 700bt instead of the 900bt if you are willing to give up DVD playback. The only thing the 900 has different is DVD playback, and I had DVD in my last car and never used it, so I figure I would save myself the money and go with the 700. Just thought I'd let you know.

I like the F series from Pioneer. It's pretty sweet stuff! Even the old D3 was nice, but this only improves on the previous D3's platform.

Yeah I had the D3 in my last car and I liked it. I am pretty favorable towards pioneer decks from what I have experienced from them

i would say just be safe and buy through crutchfield, everything will be included and it will come with the nicest kit/harness

but thats a great price... so do everything on crutchfield, find what you need, then buy it from the other place

Does the navi run off a hard drive or do you have to insert CD's?

It says under specs that map data is flash memory, so I guess you don't have to take up the disc slot. I wish they would up grade the Z series to look more like this with the 7inch screen.

yea it runs off of an SD memory card. you can see it if you look at the pic of the front. you can even set your own point of interests if you wanted to.

I just got the AVIC-F700BT and i have to say it is amazing! All the suff for the navi is already built in so there is no need for cd's. I would go with the AVIC-F700BT instead of the AVIC-F900BT because 1) 200 dollars cheaper and 2) you can't play DVD's or any videos while the car is in motion, unless you have the wire disconnected. Love the system again the only thing is that it does take some time to get up and running (like 45 sec to 1 min) and then if you have an ipod connected through a usb (which i strongly suggest for the best quality) then it take an extra minute to load all of the songs, but it is well worth it. I have a 2006 SS/SC and i was okay with the 20 dollar kit to make it fit and i think it will be the same with yours. Hope this helped ! Good luck

yeah, ill probably go with the 700, i was thinking about it.. even if i am somewhere where i would want to watch a dvd or whatever.. how often am i actually gonna carry dvds with me..

the 700 seemed like a better deal than the d3 because of the cds for the navigation.

I just installed my 700 two days ago and I simply love it. It comes with the built-in bluetooth and flash memory for the navi. So no you don't need the discs, and it does have a small hard drive for it too. I'm getting an 8 gb SD card to hold my music, and then a flash drive that I can also use via the USB connector. I simply love the deck, and it looks like it belongs in the Cobalt. I'll have a bulletin later today with pics of everything.

The D3 looks much nicer but the F900 blends in better because its not shiny.

crutchfield says its a modified fit for our dash openings, did anyone have to cut anything out of the back to make it fit? or does it just slide right in place?
