Best subs?

I have an old Alpine MRV-1507 amp and I'm looking to put 2 or possibly 3 10's in my car. I was looking at the Alpine Type-R's. Anyone have any experience with these subs or is there a better option for about the same price? Also, could someone suggest something that would work well with my amp?

Honestly I definitely would. The amps are actually my brothers and he had a small apline for his deck and then the big apline for his 3 JL 12's (dont rememeber what kind, it was about 8yrs ago). But I already have the amp and could save money

Personally I prefer Mr. Subb but Subway isn't that bad either. Quizno's is just too expensive IMO.

yea quiznos is expensive.. but you get more meat then anywhere else so it's worth it.. plus they don't have that extra for crispy bull **** haha

ummm what are you going for SQL or SPL ? there are a bunch of none mainstream brands that are in actal audio shops that'll blow the alpines out of the water.. honestly once a good company starts being sold in mainstream stores it's screwed... eclipse was awesome from what I hear.. now they're in a bunch of stores buy me... there goes that..

Alpine typr r subs are awsome, i have (2) 12'' and they pound with any music application. that amp is only going to put out like 300 watts per side at 2 ohms, so it would be good for (2) 10'' since its a 2 channel amp, you would want a little more power for anything bigger.

Would my amp be enough for 2 Type-R's?

I dont know what SQL or SPL is but I'm going for more of a system that will sound good all around but have more bass than anything else. Not just banging though.

yeah your amp will be good for 2 type r 10's, they take between 200 and 500 watts. SQ = sound quality, SPL = sound pressure level. and with two type r's you will get plenty of bass

damn i gotta stop using abbreviations haha thats the second time someone asked what SQL and SPl are haha.. honestly my setup in my sig hits pretty hard and works for all types of music... but i already bought it for my old car... if you're goin store bought..

apline (certain ones)
fosgate
infinity (meh, I personally think that they aren't that great but are way over priced)
eclipse ( should still be good)
JL
some power acoustik
kicker ( i think they're overpriced)
and MTX ( same issue as above)

make good equipment... go listen to as much as you can.. it's personal preference..

my system hits pretty good... and still has good clarity so it is perfect for me

Thanks for all the replies guys. I leaning towards the type-r's because I can get them for about 120 each. The only thing is, they come in 2 and 4 ohms; whats that mean?

I really like the type r's.. ive never had them in 10 but i had 2 type r 12's with 2 MRD M500's pushing them and I ran the subs at 2 ohms each. The ohms is the resistance which will come into play on how much power u are actually getting into the subs. U'll wanna know exacty how u are going to have it set up(as far as the wiring) to help u determine between the 2 ohm and 4 ohm.

My 2 12's set up was ridiculous.. The MRD's pushed 900 watts peak at 2 ohms so i was running at about 1800 watts max between the 2 subs. i never put my bass passed 0.. and usually rode wit it on -4... anything pass 0 was just painful( this was in a chevy blazer mind you.. i wouldnt try this in a compact car lol)

ohms is your resistance. actually i just looked at your amp and realized it doesn't support 2 ohm loads, so really you can only get out about 150 watts a side at 4 ohms. that might not be enough for the type r's now. look for something in that power range, single voice coil, at 4 ohms. id go with names elecblue06 recommended, if you want alpine, type s is a good choice, stay away from the type e

8 ohms is a lot for a car stereo setup, but if he did run that, then you were only putting out 75 watts a channel. double the resistance = half of the power

For what your working with. I would preffer the MTX 5500 series. They range around 119 a piece and I would do the single 4 ohm. So do the 5512-04 and you'll be straight. very efficient and for the price, you'll be happy!

Do you wanna do 2 subwoofers? I would do a single 12" or 15" set-up, the amp puts out 600watts bridged @ 4 ohms.. Should be sufficient enough to power a single sub set-up. 1 15" Alpine Type-R dual 2 ohm subwoofer with that amp, bridged to a 4 ohm load tuned correctly in the right box should be clean and loud.

I'm still partial to the Fusion stuff, best bang for the buck I find. You could run two Fusion PowerPlant 10's or one HD 12" and it would be loud... really loud.
