Unhappy Car Audio Sub HELP!

Ok I've asked local shops, other cobaltss.net members, well I've asked a lot of people. If you know anything about car audio please read this and help me out.

My system: stock h/u, 2 apline type r 12", alpine m850 amp. My amp is grounded to the same place as the battery is grounded. The amp gets signal from my rear speakers through a line output convertor, that too is grounded in the same place.

Now the problem is that at high volumes the subs will cut out, the amp stays on. By high volume I mean on the stock h/u if the fade is set to the middle and the bass is set high, when I turn up the volume anywhere past 3/4 the subs will stop playing. If I turn the fade to about 3/4 towards the front, then subs will not cut out, but the bass will be quieter.

If anyone has ANY idea what is going on here pleeeease help me out.

first off. dont have your bass set on high as you may be overloading/distorting your system. second off. your amp is probablly not tuned correctly, and is shutting off and going into protect... subs could be hooked up wrong, could be wrong ohm load for the amplifier, could be a bad amp.... there are many possibilities that could make this happen

I forgot to mention I had this same system in my previous car with no problems. The amp is tuned properly. , also I've thought of a few more clues. The subs cut out more noticeably when there are high treble tones in the song. For example a metal song it tends to cut out on guitar solo, and on rap sons it will not cut out if there are no high treble type of sounds. Hard to explain.

I'll give that a shot, but I doubt that is the problem, as this never happened in the old car. Any other ideas anyone?

Also you said if I need a H/U, could the line out convertor have anything to do with this? Don't get me wrong the subs can play fairly loud now, I don't know if it's worth buying a whole new h/u just for a bit more volume. And I don't wanna lose my steering controls with a hu.

alright dude so for stock h/u there is a certain connector that you need to buy i cant remember where though. You really should look into a new aftermarket h/u and the cutting out will stop

Try raising the low pass crossover frequeny to 100 and see if it still does it.

hmmm, not trying to jack the thread, but a buddy of mine kind of has an issue like this in his car. But his problem is with the whole system not working past a certain volume. He has switched headunits as well and still the same problem... any thoughts???
