Chirping When You Unlock With Key?

Hey guys.

I've noticed this a long time back, and wondered if there's anything I could do about it. On my Cobalt, when you lock the door upon leaving with the key fob button or the power door lock button inside the door, then you come back to the car and unlock it with the key, the horn chirps until you start the car. However, if you press down on the actual door lock thing on the top of the door then unlock with the key, it's fine. I tried looking for a way to reset this and I haven't been sucessful so far. The only reason I need to know this is because when I park the car outside, it's behind my moms car. So in the morning, my dad moves it for her. And he just has a key for my car, no fob. So the horn always goes off. Any information would be very helpful.

Thanks!

rtfm....lol...i had the same prob--got my car used and i didnt have the fob...pressing the button on your door once won't arm the alarm but will still lock the car...using the fob will always arm the system...so...give ur dad the fob or don't lock the car with it at the end of the day. (havent tried it but maybe only 1 press on the lock button won't arm it...i alway spress twice--so it beeps)

Nah, I usually just press it once because i'm in a townhouse neighborhood so that beep really echos. haha.

But the thing is that I've driven other Cobalts before with the same + key (I'm a valet), and some don't chirp when you use just the key??

I know that there are some setting in the DIC setup (where oil reset is) that you can change, cause mines doesnt beep unless it's two click but the lights flash at one click

^^ No, I mean when you come back to the car to get in. And you use the key to unlock. As soon as you open the door, it chirps until you start it. What you're referring to is the lock chirp. Like yours, I have mine set to do it only on the 2nd press.

I mean it wouldn't hurt to take another look in there cause there may be something for that too.

thats your security system. it does not disarm just because you unlock the car with the key. you have to actually remotely unlock it either with the fob or the button inside the car. it chirps first for like 10 seconds and then it turns to longer, more sustained honks. if you have a fob, why would you want to use the key??? more effort than needed.

anyway, its just the security system, and the only way to stop it from happening is to not have a security system.

this should be in your manual.

right the only way not to do it is if you dont use the fob... back in the day when i needed to open my moms car (she worked across from a gym so id just put my school stuff in her car) and we only had the single fob she would just lock the car inside and i could open with the key but if she used the fob it would honk
