custom door speaker brackets??

Curious if anyone on here has made some custom speaker brackets. The factory plastic crap to me seems like it could have some disadvantages with vibration and such, and since I've just blown a set of speakers (not stock), I figured while I have the door apart to replace, I might make some new brackets.

I remember seeing brackets on eBay years ago that held 6 1/2in speakers I believe. They were pretty much the bracket from the stock speaker just without the speaker.

The only problem with removing the OEM plastic brackets is that now water splashes directly on your speakers. I had my expensive components almost rot away because of that. The original brackets actually deflect water but you cannot install anything with a bigger magnet than the stock speakers. I used foam speaker baffles to cover the speakers. You can take off the plastic brackets, cover the hole with sound deadening material, cut an X-shape with a utility knife, fold it back into itself and mount the speakers using self-tapping screws.
