Deck or bigger amp, make the call

Ok guys.

My Hifonics Brutus BXi 606 went out the other day, for no explainable reason.

so, i'm sending it in. As of now the options are repair, replace, or in my case pro-rate and pay diff to a diff amp.

So, here are the options. If I were to choose to upgrade my amp, it would be to a

Hifonics TXi 1008D.

If I were to go with a replacement amp and buy a deck, it'd be either a:

Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X591

or

Eclipse CD4000

I'd rather almost take the replacement amp(same BXi 606) and give them my added business of one of those decks. The Kenwood would give me 4v rca out x 3, and the eclipse would give me 5v rca out x 3. I'm almost leaning towards the Eclipse.

this may be incredibly biased, but... look somewhere other than hifonics.

i had a hifonics amp, the brutus bx1000d if i recall. i've been in the car stereo field for 7 years now, my installs are always clean, never blew a speaker, fuse, amp, nothing. however, one day my hifonics amp decided to catch on FIRE. i'm cruisin at about 65, tunes are pumpin nicely, and my bass dies. wierd... 10 seconds i smell a horrible burnt metal/fabric smell. i pull over in time to see smoke coming out of my back seat ski hole.

i pop the trunk, and nearly scream in horror as the damn thing was literally on fire. little flames were jumping out between the heatsink and the rest of the amp's casing!!

my dash-mounted volt gauge read a constant 14.1 volts, so no high-voltage issues. my mtx amp wasn't affected, nor was any other equipment. i bought it brand new from a stereo shop.

got a replacement, no questions asked. the 2nd one, 3 months later, crapped out (fortunately no fire this time)

replaced it with an elemental designs nine.1 amp. been pumpin for nearly 3 years without a hitch. so i'm going to have to go ahead and say **** hifonics. i'd rather go with pyle.

get an elemental design amp (very fond of them... great equipment, excellent sound, even better warantee) the nine.2 would suffice. 1 x 400wrms @ 12.5 volts! more like closer to 500wrms @ 13.8volts. hifonics never make the wattage they claim. you're probably only seeing 500wrms, which is identical to the eD.

get your $$ back for your hifonics amp. please...
