Disable AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS (NOT DRL)

See title. Is the only way a resistor? If so, what size? Do I have to pull the dash out?

My HIDs don't like cycling if I park in the shade....

Thanks!

Next time I start the car, they are back on automatic. Doing this every cycle doesn't work since the HiDs instantly turn on. Not good for them.

Hmm, mine usually stays off. There might be a setting in the DTC for the auto lights

I believe there is a fuse for the auto headlight side of the system, I haven't looked it up in a long time though...

In order to properly disable it, yes you would have to wire in a resistor in place of the light sensor so the car thinks it's always sunny out. I imagine you could cut the harness down closer to the BCM on the right side footwell, rather than removing the dash.

Auto headlights aren't that bad on the headlights as it supplies full power to the ballast. Daytime running setting is what hurts them because it's reduced power. There is a fuse for that.

Constant on and off isn't good for some hid systems either, I can't save I've ever really paid attention to how sensitive the light sensor is for on and offs. I have only always disabled DRL and left the auto on and have had no issue blowing bulbs or ballasts.

Same here. Mine don't come on a lot in auto unless it's close to sundown. I usually just disable them at that point.

I just know HIDs don't like constant cycling. Already pulled DRL fuse. I'll have to play with the light sensor

How about u just unplug the light sensor on the dash. Pretty sure that would do the trick. Or wire a switch on it so u can turn the auto headlight feature on or off at will

Might sound stupid but what if you just masked the sensor off and plasti dipped it. When i had my truck and i wanted my headlights to just stay on all the time i read up on the whole resistor way and ended up just putting a hat over the sensor lol. Lights never turned off.

This is correct. If you unplug the sensor, they stay on all of the time.

Well if that's how it works then bridging the wires on the plug when its unplugged should make it stay off all the time

The issue is if it thinks it's daylight out... The dash lights won't come on
