Door chime not working properly?

06 LT coupe, When the door is open the door ding sounds constantly even if the lights aren't on and there is no key in the ignition. Is this normal?

the better question is where do the chimes even come from? In an 06 the speaker is in the speedo so maybe replacing the speedo would fix it (if whatever tells the speaker to make noise is all inclusive in the speedo) but if not the only other thing id think it could be is the bcm. that would be a pretty expensive fix for some chimes

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Anyway, I don't think I want to spend all that just to fix a stupid door ding. I need to get the ignition switch recall done. Any chance that might remedy my issue?

yes, if the little tab in the cylinder that the key pushes against when it's in is stuck, the new cylinder will fix the problem. The tab pushes against the ignition switch, so if that's shorted or stuck, the new switch could fix it also.

I would have the recall done first before diagnosing anything any further.
