Door speakers in an LS?

Has anyone done a "how-to" on replacing door speakers? Want to install an aftermarket HU and would like to upgrade all the speakers. The back ones have been covered, just curious about the front?

I dont have a how to, but there is one on removing the door panels. I just did mine about a week ago. Its pretty easy. Id recommend speakers from Crutchfield, since they give you everything you need.

I just got some audiopipe 6.5 and 6x9 speakers this weekend and will be installing them into my LS. I can make a how to if you want. For right now I am just replacing the speakers but will eventually get a new headunit and hook the speakers to an amplifier.

just remove the door panels. then unscrew the speakers. and the factory speakers in pretty much all cars have a plastic clip that goes onto the speakers and has the wires attached to the clip. just cut that off and take off the insulation to the wires, then you're good to go

you still would need a bracket of some type if you want to do it right. Supposively a guy at the shop made some 6.5s fit in his gf's ls no bracket but i made one when i was putting them in my ex's ls. If the speaker isnt sealed off its going to sound worse

I put 6 1/2 infinity references in last year. What I did was after I had door panel off etc. I took the speaker out and cut the tabs in the stock speaker off and totally gutted the stock speaker. Then I put the new speaker in the stock housing. fits awesome. But some people said I might have weather issues like rain/snow with it not being sealed right. But no problems here.

nah the only really element issue you may end up with is a broken speaker but that has nothing to do with how you mount it. Ive had my door panel off with no speaker and when i washed my car there was definite water in the door but nothing really entered the cabin. there isnt really much harm that can be done

I used the factory bracket, just modded it, but like it was mentioned if you buy your speakers from Crutchfield they will send everything, brackets , harnesses and instructions.

I just installed my new speakers last night. I didnt make or modify the brackets yet tho. For now i just drilled some new holes and mounted them to the door. Its not sealed all the way around but it still sounds good right now. Eventually I will get around to new brackets.

BTW does anyone know what the stock output is from the radio to the speakers? Im looking for a wattage? My new speakers don't sound as loud but are a lot clearer. I think its because I have not amped them yet and the stock radio doesnt put out very much to the speakers. My 6.5 doors have an RMS of 125W each and the rear 6x9 the RMS is 250W each. Haven't installed the rears yet, waiting for the weekend

I was thinking about putting my aftermarket grilles on but it looks a little involved. The door isn't flat enough to just slap them on so it looks like you would have to use a dremel and cut the old area out and then try and use bondo or something to mold the new grill into place

depends on the grill. if its closed enough you can get away with cutting a hole and mounting the grill on the panel itself.

I'm sure the stock speakers are a slightly more efficient dual paper cone design. Coaxials use a bass blocking cap for the tweeter which sucks up a little power.

"Loudness" can also be percieved with distortion. Better speakers you tend to not realize are playing as loudly. Untill you get blasted the next time you start the car

I thought someone put a post in the how to section for non pioneer system door speakers. But I think they did hack up the stock speakers for the brackets.
