DVD based Navi systems....

Question for you guys out there that have DVD based Navigation systems: have you ever tried to to burn a copy of the Navigation DVD and see if it works with the system?

I just recently bought and installed the Pioneer Avic D3 Navi system and since the navi DVD's are so expensive it would be nice to be able to make a back-up just in case the original got lost or damaged.
