EmpJJ Second Skin Thread

I just did the front wheel wells and decided to make a new thread with all the pics of what I've done so far. some new some old no particular order either

Got 2+ layers of damp pro on the drivers side wheel well.

On the wheel well insert there is a real thin layer of cotton I figured LLP would work better so i yanked the stock piece, made a copy of it in LLP and put some damp pro as well to do its thing... LLP probably didnt do much but cant be worse then stock

Finally did the passenger side wheel well and fender

I was going to mimic the LLP on the drivers side but the stock cotton was stuck on this side good. So i had just put some damp over the spots i tried peeling up and called it good. Problem was it didn't fit back on . So i yanked all that and threw it away just put damp pro... still didn't fit and i was running out of time. I figured out the damp pro on the metal itself was preventing the plastic from fitting so i cut a bit of the plastic and it for the most part fits.

Sound dampening my amp cover. 2 pieces of SPL plate and a few layers of spectrum

Pictures of my floor... Its mainly a single layer of damp pro and a thick layer of spectrum

To fill up the lil dip right before the hump for the rear seat there is this cotton packed piece to make it flat. Originally i was gonna try cutting LLP and replace it but i got lazy and figured LLP wouldn't have made a difference over the stock formed cotton. So instead I put overkill on the stock cotton piece because the top was starting to get all torn up

So this is what you get when you combine Second Skins new top of the line vibration dampener and a lil bit of rattle from the rear bumper.... Just when you thought my car couldnt get heavier LOL

~8.5 sheets of SPL Plate

adding ~2.5 sheets of damp pro

The rattle would completely go away if the tabs holding the bumper on top are pressed hard as hell so i probably could have just put a strip of overkill and been fine but thats no fun. I ended up putting 2 layers of overkill at that junction (one on the bumper itself and one on that black plastic piece the tabs actually go into)

lux liner in the quarter panel... hope the plastic panel still fits after this. excuse the wiring

Spectrum in the box

When i started the hood i told myself i wasn't going to go all out i didn't want full coverage but that didn't turn out to well, it happened anyway

Started the process of getting LLP in the door. So far i've only done the drivers side and i'm going to tackle the pass side in a few days. The drivers side got most of the product with LLP coverage on all 3 sections of the door and the most product in the door panel. When i do the pass side it should have ~40% less

Damp pro and spectrum on the trunk lid

Heatwave pro in the middle and overkill on the sides (theres some stock eggcrate looking plastic pieces that helps the headliner retain its shape the overkill was put on these to prevent that plastic and the metal or should i save damp pro from rattling)

Damp Pro on the roof

Damp Pro on the quarter panel

When i started the hood i told myself i wasn't going to go all out i didn't want full coverage but that didn't turn out to well, it happened anyway

here's the MMP from frootloops on the second skin audio forum... ended up pretty much perfect, i trimmed a lil on the sides and bottom but it "fit" alot better then i thought. I cut off about an extra inch on each side but i thought i would spray the edges black anyway just in case.

Is that 8 guage running inside your box?
Here I thought I was being redonkulous...good to see I'm not the only one

Looks good!
The stock brakes are bad enough, but with all that added wieght, you must have be really gentle on them, take into account the high temps it can get down in NM, are you still running with stack pads?

I know the fosgate lids rattle but do you really think throwing some damp/spl tiles would make a diff? I just finished my doors and more of the qp's and I have like 3 extra tiles

no it didn't make a difference for me. i only had the lid on for a short time (my t4 is like half fucked) and it sounded about the same as normal... it might have decreased the rattling but not much. sealing off the trunk and having it secured with the metal amp rack did way more

Also emp have u tried rattle pad? I still get a bad rattling noise from my rear deck trim bouncing against the acctual deck/rear window

and I'm sure u have it emp but I reccomend putting some damp under the rear seats I could hear an audible difference after like 40% coverage with spl tiles

lol ya i dont have any pictures of the back but i have damp pro spectum and over kill under the rear seat.

Rattle pad is pretty cool but ill never use all of it. I bought 2 sheets and i think ive used like 1/4 a sheet. I have it on all the clips that hold in the black center consol plastic that you take out to remove the carpet. I want to do all the gm clips but i didn't have time when i was doing it

You should stuff the rear deck with some towels or something... not sure if rattle pad would help because its not super thick

I already have ab assortment of towels under there, I was thinking of throwing some thick foam blocks under it to prop it up in the air cuz it's just the very back of the trim by the window that makes contact with the deck

The vibiration dampers aren't that thick but would def slow down a bullet....I'm thinking the luxury liner could do some work though

lol one of the guys at work wants to get some sheet metal and see if its bullet proof or not. at the thickest point a bullet would have to go thru 3 layers of damp pro and 3 layers of LLP. The thickest area of just damplifer pro is the wheel wells having 5 layers on the outside(one area) and 2 on the inside (full coverage)
