Exterior Trunk Release

I had the great pleasure of locking my keys in my car yesterday and waiting for the towing company to come unlock my door. That being said, I'm curious if anyone has ever wired a secondary trunk release either in their wheelwell, gas cap, or towards the front of the hood. I've heard of it being done, but not on a cobalt. This would be an awesome convenience mod for the occasionally forgetful.

Or just be simple, get one of those magnetic hideaway boxs, paint it the color of your car(just for camouflage) put your extra keyless remote in it, and stick it under the car.

But that's not "cool". I've actually had an old hide-a-key fall off on my S-10 a looong time ago, but it was never an issue. I didn't know it until I actually checked for it when I sold the truck.

I think a button wired up under the hood would be best as I usually end up having to pop the trunk to get to the battery. Now it would have that convenience factor as well.

button under the hood would do absolutely NO good if you are locked out of the vehicle lol. I would say though, you can run a simple push button anywhere and run inline with your release solenoid for your trunk, maybe a relay and hide the button.

The switch would be located towards the front of the hood by the hood latch. If you reach under the front part you can get your fingers in a ways without popping the hood. Putting it here makes sure no one randomly discovers it.

I'm assuming I would have to look through something like a Haynes manual to find the specific wiring I'm searching for.

do you want it to be "cool" or practical? i think the end result of it working would be way better than how cool or uncool it is. and i second the hide a key. they come with a loop on them which you run a zip tie thru and then thru a slot in the underside of the car so it doesnt fall off. now you have your key, its hidden and you can get in your car. now thats cool.

Back when I had my jeep, I ziptied a spare key underneath to something. Just make sure to carry a knife with you or you'd still be **** outta luck

depending on how the interlock system works you can get a spare chevy key WITHOUT the "chip" in it... so this key will open the doors but if your alarm is on it will go off and you wont be able to disable it or start the car with the key without the chip... so youd have like 10 seconds to find ur keys and unarm the alarm before it gets loud

if you lock your keys in your car, whats the point of opening the trunk?
to crawl through into your car? what if u have subs?

i dont have power locks so i dont know if opening the trunk affects the locks...so just like to know the benefit of the 2nd switch

hey emperor, i can't send you a PM so i figured i'd just ask you through here...

So, you have helped me in the past, and my problem with my headunit not working right now is that the fuse tap will not fit in slots 21 and 22. it fits in the others but not those 2, we currently have it in the windshield wiper slot and it comes on with the car now but it doesn't save my settings after being off for about 2 minutes or so. Any suggestions??

just thought of it... probably the constant not the ACC (or they are switched)

test the yellow wire with the car off and see if ur getting power. if worse somes to worse you can solder the fuse instead of using a tap

2:30 am, bathroom break at truckstop, middle of Illinois in farmland...Locked keys in trunk...I did this in my old lt. It was the gay. I waited around for 2 hours for some angry incompetent old man to damage my door and take 80 dollars.
