Fog lights, but i searched first

So i took off my trim piece and found the wiring harness for the fog lights sitting there.

I have a few questions:

Where could i get a new trim piece with the fog light button? How much would it cost?

Where are the wires at by the bumper? I've heard that they are purple but i looked and cant seem to find them. A pic would be helpfull.

It will all plug and play right?

When i searched, people would start threads and not return with results. Pics would be helpfull on where the wires are too thanks guys...

i know people have done this b 4

You can get that trim piece from any GM Parts Department. Will set you back roughly 45-55 USD. Make sure you tell them you need the trim part with the fog light hole.... most of them are dumb, lol

Or look for someone with a totaled balt ss on here and maybe they still have it

As for the wiring I have no clue..... sorry

im thinking theres a little more to it than just hooking up the switch to one side and the fogs to the harness

there is no harness in the bumper, chevy was dumb, also , they cut out the bracket that ACTUALLY holds the fog light!!!! itll look like it fits and you can put the outside grill trim piece, but youll have to custom mount the fog itself, i apoxied it in there and ran my own wiring.

gm parts direct for the pieces, but he stock button wont work as it communicates with your ecu and you dont hav ethe setup for it...its not an on/off buttton, its a trigger of sorts that tells the ecu to do the opposite of what it is doing lol

ya, took us 4 hours after getting the fog assembly and grill pieces for a bumper with existing places that LOOKED liek they were for it...we checked 3 cobalts, and unless your car and bumper CAME with them...they cut out the neccessary parts to make you have to buy a new bumper or custom job it

thats why i asked because the wiring is behind my trim piece. I read that if it is there then it goes to the BCM then the fuse box then bumper.

I just want to find the wires at the bumper and buy the trim piece.

wires would be down in the area under the headlight if you had them...

easiest way i have found is tap power from running lights so you cant forget to turn them off and drain the battery, run it to a switch then the lights and ground them seperatly, i had stock bulbs running for a few mo and now 10k hids and they all work just fine

the stock button will not work for you, but if you pull it out you can put your own switch in its place.

aww thats ghey.

So heres my plan: i'll draw power from my remote amp wire to a switch. from the switch to a relay. And then from there to the fogs.

What kind of relay should i get? Does it need to be grounded? Or wont the relay just have the "hot" wire running thru it to each fog, then ground out each fog? right?

hey wait why would it not work if i have the wiring behind the trim piece? :not mad:

i just want to see if it works. but i don't want to buy that trim piece if you know for a fact that it will not work. also what headlight would the wires be under? both?

Thanks for all of the input you've already given me. I already did the easy part and mounted the lights. lol

but would GM put in a different bcm? Is every BCM specific to each car?

no prob
and i know they wont work cause they are not an on off switch, they communicate with the bcm that works not as an on off interuption in power switch, it actually communicates with an input that tells the bcm to execute some something and turn them on or off...so it really wouldnt work for us...i just replaced mine in the stock location for something else, i have the fog switch at the bottom of the panel below the steering wheel since i mostly leave them on

its programmed for only fnctions in the car and also you dont have the outputs on the other end, so it can communicate and tell the bcm to do something..but it doesnt know what and has no way of doing it...

and yes...GM is kinda dumb that way btw

Ok i think i might just use the wiring kit that came with my lights. I just don't want to foget about them being on. I'll just buy a sleek switch with a bright light on it. I'll try to wire it up tomorrow. and i hope i still get a lot of light output lol.

Thanx again for the input

The GM foglights run through the BCM in these cars.

Anyways, it would be easier to hook up the fogs to a relay that turns the fogs on with the low beams. That'll cover your ass for the inspection requirement that requires them to turn off with the highs. You can also wire in a switch so you can disable that relay at will from the cockpit.

I did have a wiring diagram for this, but I cannot find it.

I ran all of my wires sort of. I just need to extend the hot wire to the switch, and run my three grounds. I'm pretty much just waiting for a drill. lol
