Front speakers, idiot question

What is my max mounting depth for the 6.5's? Tired of the Fosgates and I want to throw some Crescendo PWX's in but they are 3-1/8 deep...

I'm not sure excactly what the mounting deptch is but I remember when I did my MB Quarts I had a finger behind it between the magnet and window glass rolled down. So 2 7/16" + my finger 1/2".. So like 3".. It would be close, probably have to actually measure it on your car.

Why couldn't you have reliably fat fingers. lol. Thanks man, just got the Cobalt to my house from my old apartment today, tomorrow he will be tore down. The Audiobahn A275HCT I was running for a while died and now I have the choice of an antique Acoustic Research 40/80 GS or my PPI Phantom 600.2 for mids and highs... I may just check to make sure the AR still works and run the PPI... IDK. Kinda thinking of trying to blow my fosgates for giggles since the front right is blown.

Update, front right speaker is definitely blown... not really blown but the surround is ripped... I can fit from the tip of my finger to my big knuckle in there before hitting the window which is just over 3" but for the sake of the glass window and not having to beat my wife I am gonna get a 3/4 spacer for now, Pretty soon though I will probably be running two Crescendo PDX 6.5's and two Reactor Audio T2 tweets in each door so it looks like I will be doing a lot of cutting and bracing.

Definitely, I just ordered 2 of the tweets and I will be ordering the pdx's and the other two tweeters at the beginning of next month. Hopefully I will have enough money after bills to buy a sheet of birch so I can start on my TL for the 8's.

Oh yeah, Alphadamp B stock. Gonna cover the whole door on each side, under headliner, rear deck, rear section of floor, then whereever needed after I get the subs back in.

its needed if you want you speakers to sound good and you want less road noise...

how often do you get to use the "power" of your car? and how often do you listen to music in your car?

i love car audio just as much as you all. I am sure, its an obsession but in the cobalt its pointless. Its a horribly noisy chassis, engine, suspension combination. If I was really worried about the quality of sound in our cars I wouldnt have one. I understand we have to do what we can to help the staging of sound but since the days of 90's SQ competition, cars make horrible platforms for sound imaging. I keep the SQ for the house and do what I can in the car.

As for the sound deadening, there are different product for different parts of the car. You dont need a heavy asphalt based deadener on every singe inch of every surface. Its just a waste of weight and money.

Its not a waste of money so much as you can do other panels with other product to get better acoustics vs just anti vibe stuff all over the place.

I have my engine pretty much setup now with my most recent mods, I am going to start new projects on audio. I miss having stupid awesome loud bass in my car.

how "spl" are you??? because if you are racing for every 10th then you will want to test with each addition. sometimes u can lose SPL from sound dampening

Around here as long as you can hit high 40's you will dominate your class unless walled... There is one dude I have to consider around here with an 80's 4 door civic with his trunk built 6th order hitting 157.6 but he is out of my class considering he is running 10k rms to 4 DC 12's. I will be running 1500rms to 3 8's with the trunk sealed off and the box set up like most suv's in the back seat with port and subs up. Gonna put my 3 MA-8's in a T line and see how ridiculous I can get it before one blows... My goal has shifted to 150 with 3 8's. Depending on how money looks in the future I may get two more SA-8's and throw them in the T line instead since they have slightly better soft parts.
